Objectives;

1) Use formal and informal registers appropriate to the target audience in most familiar
situations by writing an email reply and email it to the teacher. Question:
You are inviting your favourite teacher (Madam Aishah) for an Iftar and you are asking her to
pay for your meal. Write her an email and state reasons for your unusual request :)

2) Recognise with little or no support the attitude or opinion of the writer in extended texts on
a wide range of familiar topic by reading two emails and answering 5 simple comprehension
questions

Pre Lesson

1) Pupils are asked how many of them have sent and received emails? Why are emails in trend
now?
2) Pupils are also asked if they prefer to use emails or letters. Why?

Lesson Delivery

STAGE 1

3) From the plenary session, pupils are now asked to read an email from Simon to Mark.
4) Pupils are paired ( in breakout rooms) to answer the questions for Activity A. Answers are
then checked. More prompts are given such as
“What does Simon think about getting a new laptop?”
“ How does he think Mark will feel about this news?”
“What is Simon’s attitude towards having a birthday party?”
“How does Simon think Mark will feel about this news?”

These are the comprehension questions where they focus on polishing reading and
understanding.
5) Next, pupils also read the reply email from Mark to Simon. They are asked to indicate which
expressions show enthusiasm/ invitation and giving news.
6) Pupils are also asked to reply to 4 statements from the text book and use the expressions
discussed correctly.

STAGE 2

7) Once, pupils have completed the task and share their answers, pupils are now asked to write
an email reply to their teacher. They are to really send an email to the given email address.
Question as follows;

Post Lesson

8) Pupils are asked what are the set phrases they learn when it comes to email writing. Pupils shout
out or type their responses in chatbox.
