[Short answer questions!
7. A flat plate is pulled with a speed of 0.6 m/s related to another plate located at a

distance of 0.0254 mm from fixed plate applying a force of 0.2 N/mm". Determine

the viscosity of the fluid between the plates.

8. State and prove Pascal’s law.

9. A 30 cm dia. pipe, conveying water, branches into two pipes of dia. 20 cm and 15

cm respectively. If the average velocity at 30 cm dia. pipe is 2.5 m/s and that of 20

cm dia. pipe is 2m/s, find the velocity at 15 cm dia. pipe.

10. The rate of flow of water through a horizontal pipe is 0.25cubicmeter. The dia. Of

the pipe which is 200 mm is suddenly enlarged to 400 mm. The pressure in the

smaller pipe is 11.77 N/cm2. Determine the pressure in the larger pipe.

(Long answer questions)

14. (A) State Bernoulli's theorem. Derive Bernoulli’s equation for a incompressible

fluid in steady flow.

(B) A simple U tube manometer containing mercury is connected to a pipe in which

a fluid of sp. gr. 0.9 and having a vacuum pressure is flowing. The other end of

manometer is open to atmosphere. Find the vacuum pressure in pipe, if the difference

of mercury level in the two limbs is 40 cm and height of fluid in the limb from the

centre of pipe is 15 cm below.
