6. a)
Number of children choosing Tuna = 10u
90° → 10u
360° → 10u x 4 → 40u
Number of children choosing cheese = 40u – 10u – 14u – 4u = 12u

b)
14u = 56
u=4
Number who chose Egg = 4u = 4 x 4 = 16
Ans: a) 12u, see graph
b) 16

7. ∠BCD = ∠BAD = 180 – 79 – 79 = 22°

8. Let price of 1 bun = u

Price of 4 buns = 3u + ½ u = 3.5u
12
Price of 12 buns = x 3.5u = 10.5u = $16.80
4

u = 16.80 ÷ 10.5 = $1.60 = price of 1 bun

Ans: $1.60

9. Let length PQ = u
Area of triangle RPQ = ½ x 16 x u = 8u
Area of triangle OPQ = ½ x 432 = 216 cm2
Area of triangle ORQ = 216 – 8u
Area of triangle ORQ = 432 – 312 = 120 cm2
216 – 8u = 120

∠BCD = 180 – 118 = 62° (trapezium)
∠BCE = 62 – 21 = 41°
b)
BCEF is a parallelogram → Not Possible to Tell (∠ABF = ∠BCE, not sure DEF is
a straight line)
BE is perpendicular to EC → False (BEC = 89° )

11. a)
10 2
Fraction of water in tank at first = 55 = 11

b)
25−10
Flow rate before Tap B was turned on = = 3.75 ℓ per min
4

c)
55−25
Flow rate between 4 – 14 min = = 3 ℓ per min
14−4

Flow rate of Tap B = 3.75 – 3 = 0.75 ℓ per min

Volume of water flowed out from 4-14 minute = (14 – 4) x 0.75 = 7.5 ℓ

12. Let distance from Bobby’s house to the park = u

Distance from Fanny’s house to the park = u + 280 + 280 = u + 560
Let t = time taken by both to reach their houses in minutes
u = 120x t = 120t
Distance from park to Fanny’s house = u + 560 = (120+40)t
120t + 560 = 160t (substitute u = 120t)
560 = 160t – 120t = 40t
t = 560 ÷ 40 = 14 min
u = 120t = 120 x 14 = 1680 m
Ans: 1680 m

13. a)
Let remaining plums = r
4 4
of remainder → 7 of total bought
5
4 4
of remainder → 7 of total bought
5
4 4
r = 7 x (152 + r)
5

28r = 20 x 152 + 20r (x 35)

8r = 3040
r = 3040 ÷ 8 = 380 = remaining plums after throwing away 152
4
Number of plums left after selling 1/5 = 5 x 380 = 304 = number of plums packed

b)
Number of big boxes = 304 ÷ 12 = 25 R 4 or 24 R 16
Number of small boxes = 16 ÷ 8 = 2
Least number of boxes = 24 + 2 = 26

Number of white balloons in the end = ½ x (170 – 26) = 72
Number of red balloons in the end = 72 + 26 = 98
b)
100
Number of white balloons at first = x 72 = 96
75

Number of red balloons at first = 96 – 19 = 77

98−77
Percent increase in red balloons = x 100 = 27.27% ≈ 27.3%
77

Ans: a) 98
b) 27.3%

15. a)
Ratio of mass of bolt to nut → 5:3 → 5u : 3u
Mass of 3 bolts = 3 x 5u = 15u
Equivalent number of nuts = 15u ÷ 3u = 5
b)
Let weight of box = b
70 nuts + weight of box = 1540 g
70 x 3u + b = 1540
210u + b = 1540 (1)
30 bolts + weight of box = 1180 g
30 x 5u + b = 1180
150u + b = 1180 (2)
60u = 1540 – 1180 (1) – (2)
u = 360 ÷ 60 = 6
210 x 6 + b = 1540 substitute u to (1)
b = 1540 – 1260 = 280 g

Top
2u + v + 6 = 57
2u + v = 51
4u + 2v = 102 (x2) →(2)
3u = 102 – 57 = 45 (2) – (1)
u = 45 ÷ 3 = 15 cm
