b. Establishing
purpose for the What is meant by citing textual evidence?
lesson
Text is a written work.
.
Evidence is a proof that's essential to an
author creating a strong argument or claim.
All texts, or reading passages, contain
evidence.
Text + evidence is citing proof in the
reading.

c. Presenting
example/instances Steps to help cite textual evidence correctly
of the new lesson

-. Step 1: Read the text thoroughly.

(Meaning read from the very beginning until
the end of the text.)
It is helpful to read through the text
independently and then together. That way,
struggling readers will be able to hear words
that they may not have understood or
read correctly.
Step 2: Apply the ACE method
A = Answer the question using prior
knowledge or inference.
Prior Knowledge: When a reader has
previous experience or has already read
about
a particular topic, he will have some insight
or knowledge to the topic before reading
it. Having prior knowledge on a topic will
help the reader comprehend it better than
someone with no prior knowledge.
Inferring: It is an educated guess or reading
facts and evidence to reach a logical
conclusion or opinion. Making inferences
while reading is a strategy that will
help you understand the text at a deeper
level. It is best to draw a conclusion or
form an opinion by finding two or more
supporting details in the reading passage.
C = Cite evidence in the text to support your
thoughts and opinions.
When answering questions about a reading
assignment, look back at the text and
find proof for the answers within the text.
Highlighting the text is an effective
approach to mark the evidence.
E = Explain your answer by paraphrasing or
directly quoting.
Paraphrasing is translating something into
your own words. When putting
information into your own words, it makes
you think about what you have read, and
you will be more likely to understand and
remember it. You can begin paraphrasing
by using these introductory words:
The author explains…
The text shows….
Example:
My dad and his friends are having fantasy
football draft. They each draft players and
form their own teams. They follow their
team players throughout the season and get
the points for different victories. At the end
of the year, the person with the most points
wins the prize. They have fun drafting
players on their teams.

The author explains that her dad has fun

drafting a fantasy football team with his
friends. They keep track of points each team
earns and they award a winner at the
end of the season.
Quoting is copying exactly what the author
is saying in your answer. Make sure to use
quotation
marks.
Example: John said: "I saw Mary today.”
Other introductory words are as follows:
The author says, “…”
The text states, “….”
The author clearly states that, "...
For example, readers learn that "...
According to the text, "...
Research shows that “…
Step 3: Take Notes
To take no

d. Discussing new Directions: Read the text carefully. Encircle

concepts the letter that cites evidence about the given
passage. Underline the word/words that will
justify your answer.

A. SAN FRANCISCO - Facebook profit
surged in the final three months of last year
as people
enduring the holidays in a pandemic turned
to the leading social network for work and
pleasure, the company said Wednesday.
Facebook reported profit of $11.2 billion on
revenue of $28 billion, increases of 53
percent and 33 percent when compared with
the same period the prior year.
"We had a strong end to the year as people
and businesses continued to use our services
during these challenging times," said
Facebook chief executive Mark Zuckerberg.
Facebook to add more account security
features next year.
Facebook said its core social network had
some 2.8 billion users at the end of
December
while 3.3 billion people used at least one of
its "family" of apps including Instagram,
WhatsApp and Messenger.
Facebook shares that ended the formal
trading day down 3.5 percent remained little
changed in after-market trades that followed
release of the earnings figures.
The Silicon Valley colossus noted in the
release that it faces "significant uncertainty"
in the
coming year Facebook takes in the bulk of
its revenue from advertising and said that it
benefited as the
pandemic accelerated a shift to online
commerce, particularly for products as
opposed to
services such as booking travel.
"Looking forward, a moderation or reversal
in one or both of these trends could serve as
a
headwind to our advertising revenue
growth," Facebook said in the release.

j. Additional activities Say goodbye to our own COVID-19 vaccine
for application or posted January 15, 2021 at 12:00 am by
remediation Ernesto M. Hilario
"Why didn’t we ever initiate the
development of a vaccine or a cure?"
In September last year, I raised this question
in this space: Why didn't the
Duterte administration even think of
initiasting the development of a vaccine or
cure
for COVID-19, and completely relied on
other countries, such as China, Russia,
United
States and United Kingdom, to supply us
with the vaccines that would allow us to
achieve
herd immunity against the dreaded disease?
I asked a graduate of a Bachelor of Science
degree in Molecular Biology and
Biotechnology
from the University of the Philippines in
2018 and who finished his masteral course in
the
same field at the University of Queensland
in Australia last year, the same question.
Here's what he told me in an email:
One, we don't have the scientists. The vast
majority of science graduates choose to
work abroad because of the lack of job
security, benefits, and potential for career
progression in this country.
Two, the Philippine government has never
allocated enough budget for science and
technology (S&T). Therefore, we don't have
the facilities to pull off the hugely expensive
and
complex task of vaccine development.
And three, we don't have tax incentives for
foreign pharmaceutical companies and
contract
manufacturing organizations to operate in
the country, which is another reason why we
don't have great jobs for local scientists.
