REPORTED SPEECH

INTRODUCTION

❖ The act of reporting the words of a speaker is called narration.


There are basically which the words of the speaker can be
conveyed in writing.

❖ Reported speech is also known as Direct and Indirect speech.


DIRECT SPEECH

❖ Direct Speech (Direct Narration) The reporting of the words of the


speaker without making any changes to it is known as Direct
Speech.

❖ For example – He said, “I have lost my book.”


INDIRECT SPEECH

❖ Indirect Speech (Indirect Narration) The act of reporting the


words of the speaker by making necessary changes to it is called
Indirect Speech.

❖ For example - He said (that) he had lost his books.


PARTS OF NARRATION SENTENCE

❖ A narration sentence have two parts, these are known as :

i. Reported Verb
ii. Reported Speech
REPORTED SPEECH

❖ The part of the narration sentence which is in the inverted called


reported speech.

❖Example – She says to him, “I am going to school.”


REPORTED VERB

❖ The part of the sentence that is outside the commas is known as


reported verb.

❖ Example – She says to him, “I am going to school.”
