EXAMPLE
The Legend of Malin Kundang
Once upon a time, in a small fishing village, there lived a young man named Malin Kundang. He
was a hardworking and ambitious individual who dreamt of wealth and success. So, he left his
village and set sail to seek his fortune.
Years passed, and Malin Kundang became a prosperous, successful merchant. However, he
became arrogant and forgot about his humble beginnings and the family he left behind. One
day, while his ship was docked near his old village, an old woman approached him, crying and
desperately trying to get his attention. Malin Kundang, filled with pride, denied any relation to
the old woman who claimed to be his mother.
The old woman, heartbroken and furious, cursed Malin Kundang, declaring that he would
never be able to set foot on land again until he turned into stone. As they sailed away, a fierce
storm struck the ship, turning Malin Kundang and his crew into stone.
And to this day, there is a rock formation resembling a man-on-a-ship, believed to be the
remains of Malin Kundang and his crew. The legend serves as a reminder that humility and
gratitude are important virtues, and that actions have consequences.
That is the legend of Malin Kundang, a story of pride, betrayal, and the power of a mother's
curse.
