VIDEO DISCUSSION

01 What does it mean to say that “holiness

became flesh so that it could be
forgiven”?

02 Why do you think Jesus had to die a

criminal’s death?

03 Why do you think it was important

that after Jesus rose from the dead,
he appeared to many?

Even when there was no reason for hope,
Abraham kept hoping—believing that he
would become the father of many nations.
For God had said to him, “That’s how many

descendants you will have!” And Abraham’s

faith did not weaken, even though, at about 100
years of age, he figured his body was as good as
dead—and so was Sarah’s womb.
Abraham never wavered in believing God’s
promise. In fact, his faith grew stronger, and
in this he brought glory to God. He was fully
convinced that God is able to do whatever
he promises. And because of Abraham’s
faith, God counted him as righteous. And
when God counted him as righteous, it wasn’t
just for Abraham’s benefit. It was recorded
for our benefit, too, assuring us that God

will also count us as righteous if we believe
in him, the one who raised Jesus our Lord
from the dead. He was handed over to die
because of our sins, and he was raised to

life to make us right with God.

Faith shows the reality of what we hope for; it
is the evidence of things we cannot see.

God saved you by his grace when you

believed. And you can’t take credit for this; it is
a gift from God. Salvation is not a reward for
the good things we have done, so none of us
can boast about it.

EXPLORING THE SCRIPTURE

01
How would you explain what
faith means based on what
we read about Abraham in
Romans?
03
What does Ephesians mean
when it says that salvation is

02 a gift from God and you can’t

take credit for it?
What should we believe about
Jesus’ death and resurrection,
according to Romans? 04
What is the relationship
between faith and hope?

01
Has anyone ever told you how to be saved?
How did their explanation compare with the
explanation in Romans 4?

02
How strong is your faith? What kinds of
things in your life help increase your
faith? What things make it difficult to
have faith in Jesus?

03
How would your life
look different if you
truly believed salvation
was a gift and wasn’t
something you had to
earn by being good or
doing good things?

PERSONAL RESPONSE

1. Have you ever put your faith in Jesus? Take

some time to reflect on how your faith in Jesus
has developed since you trusted him for your
salvation.
2. Would you like to place your faith in Jesus? Tell
a leader about your decision to accept Jesus’ gift
of salvation.

If you fall into one of these categories, find a

leader and pray together.
