FA: Translation of 'Little Briar Rose' to Ballet - a Discussion of Tchaikovsky's 'The Sleeping

Beauty'

2nd Period

Bianca Zelaya

As this dramatic extraordinary piece of art that is being slowly unveiled by the works of ballet

comes across, us watchers can just watch a story completely unfold which most might not even

recognize. As the act 3 of the sleeping beauty slowly begins, we are introduced by the beautiful

introduction to Aurora's wedding as it displays the lilac fairy peacefully and gracefully entering

the palace. Bluebird then enters, with Puss-in-Boots, Red-Riding-Hood, Cinderella,

Hop-o’-my-Thumb and Princess Florine who just show their amazings dances filled with

variations of dance. Each group of characters demonstrates their own solo or duo. The lilac fairy

starts off when multiple fairy like processes enter where they do various piques and leaps. They

do turns as well and various jetes’. The white and black cat continue with more of an interpretive

dance feel where they do various leaps and various pointe walks. The bluebird and princess

fluorine duo follows with them doing various interpretive dances with their moves as well. The

guy does various high jumps and carries the female ballerina numerous times. She does a

numerous amount of pirouette and keeps being on point most of the dance. Then comes who I

believe is the princess cinderella who does a more majestic dance in my opinion. She does

various pirouettes, keeps on on pointe and allows the prince to help her with numerous steps and

parts as well. She keeps on pointe for a long period of time at the end where she does a slow

turning turn. Then they both do a solo and come back into a duo. The other characters like the

fairy princesses come back into the stage and then bluebird, princess fluorine, the little red riding
hood and cinderella and her prince come into a very choreographed and in sync dance and the

play is finished.
