Name of Play: The Tragic Myth of Orpheus and Eurydice

I. Characters
A. Orpheus (A legendary musician, poet, and prophet in Greek
Mythology; He was the son of God Apollo and the muse Calliope;
Spouse of Eurydice) and Eurydice (A Wood Nymph; One of the
daughters of the God Apollo; Spouse of Orpheus)
B. Snake (Who bites Eurydice in the play) and Orpheus (A musician,
poet, and prophet in Greek Mythology; He was the son of Apollo and
the Muse Calliope)
C. Hades (The God of the Dead and King of the Underworld; He was
the eldest son of Cronus and Rhea; Spouse of Persephone) and
Persephone (The Goddess of Spring and Queen of the Underworld;
She was the daughter of the God Zeus and Goddess Demeter;
Spouse of Hades)
D. Cerberus (The Hound of Hades; A three-headed dog that guards
the gates of the Underworld), Charon (the Ferryman of Hades; He
charged dead souls to cross the River Styx), Sisyphus (Founder and
King of Ephyra; Zeus punished and forced him to roll a boulder up a
hill for eternity) Tantalus (A Greek Mythological figure; Zeus punished
him to stand in a pool of water, right under the branches of a fruit tree
for eternity) and Furies (The Goddesses of Vengeance; Orpheus
music moved them to tears)
II. Exposition
A. Underworld
B. A wedding ceremony ended when Eurydice was bitten by a snake
that brought her to death.
III. Plot
A. Eurydice dies and Orpheus goes to the Underworld to get her.
B. Orpheus successfully convinced Hades and Persephone to have
his wife back on one condition that he should not turn around to see if
Eurydice was following behind him and if he did, she would return to
the land of the dead forever. He began climbing up and up until they
were almost there and into the bright light of day, he turned around to
see her but in an instant, she was gone.
C. He tried to follow her down, but he was not allowed to entry. He
swore he never love another woman again. Instead, he sat in the
grove of trees and sang songs of lovers.
IV. Theme of Play
A. Love is Patient, It says that if Orpheus patiently waited he could
have Eurydice back.
B. Love is Patient
C. It helps us determine the overall idea of the play.
VI. Mood
A. Sad and Tragic
B. Happy at the beggining, Sad and Tragic in the end.
V. Personal Reaction
A. Yes I like the play and I would recommend it, because the play
teaches us patience and trust not only in ourselves but also in the
people we love.
