LANGUAGE TIP
Adverbs and verbs Adverbs can describe verbs, other adverbs,
Adverbs modify verbs, this means they describe the way the adjectives or the whole sentence.
Action is happening.
They are used to describe how, where,
(She sings loudly) *how does she sing?
when, why and how often something
(My cat waits impatiently for his food.)

She sings loudly (verb)
Adverbs and Adjectives She looks too tall (adjective)
Adverbs can also modify Adjectives. Here, the purpose of the Adverb She was almost completely full (Adverb)
is to add intensity to the Adjectives.

Adverbs and other Adverbs

We can use one adverb to describe the other Adverb.


(She very clearly described her location of her new house.)

Adverbs and sentences

Some Adverbs can modify the entire sentences – unsurprisingly these are called sentences Adverbs.
(Suddenly, the bell rang before time)
(Generally, the passengers were allowed to board on showing the boarding pass)
