1. Diary entry of the main days of Dashain and Tihar
Dashain day
Date: October 26 2023
Dear diary,
Today, Dashain unfolded differently, glooming over the usual festive cheer. The
absence of the customary tika marked our this year’s exit from the tradition, a stark
reminder of the recent losses in our family tree. The weight of grief hung in the air,
making the festival bittersweet.

Morning arrived lazily, with my cousin and me sleeping until 11 am. The silence in
the house echoed the absence of the vibrant ceremonies that typically characterize
Dashain. Our elders, the ones who would have blessed us with tikas, were no longer
with us, leaving a void that even the festive atmosphere couldn't entirely fill.

As the day progressed, my cousin Joshan joined us, and we decided to roam around
our village in Baglung. The familiar sights and sounds of the village took on a
different feeling, a mix of nostalgia and sorrow. We played a nepali swing ‘ping’,
momentarily distracting ourselves from the sadness of the day.

Later, we visited Joshan's house, where the strumming of a guitar filled the air. Music
became a form of solace, a way to express the emotions that words couldn't capture.
Playing together created a sense of unity, a bond forged through shared grief and
shared melodies.

Night descended, bringing with it a quiet return to our house. The absence of the
customary festivities was felt, but there was a strange comfort in the simplicity of the
day. We retired early, the stillness of the night mirroring the quiet reflection within.

As I lay in bed, I contemplated the cycle of life and the inevitability of change.
Dashain, which had always been a symbol of renewal, took on a new meaning this
year. It became a bittersweet reminder of the temporariness of life and the importance
of cherishing every moment.

In the quiet darkness of the night, I found a glimmer of hope. Despite the void left by
the absence of traditional celebrations, the day unfolded with a unique blend of
nostalgia, shared experiences, and the subtle resilience that comes with facing life's
challenges.

Tihar day
Date: November 16 2023
Dear diary,
Today was Tihar, one of very beautiful festivals of Nepal. However, this year carried
a somber note as we refrained from taking tika due to the recent demise of our nearby
relatives. This year, I, with my mother, went to my maternal uncle’s house. Despite
the unfavorable conditions for us, the Tihar in maternal uncle’s house went well and
became very enjoyable.

The morning began with a sense of happiness as the preparations for Tihar
commenced at my maternal uncle's house. The house buzzed with activity as my
mother, the sisters of my mothers, and two maternal uncles gathered for the festival.

In the early hours, I, along with my maternal uncle and his son, arranged the cloth
fixed to the house to deflect sunlight, a customary practice during Tihar. As the day
unfolded, the ceremonial proceedings began. The sisters of my mother adorned my
maternal uncle's forehead with tika, a symbol of blessings and love. The air resonated
with joy as other relatives joined in, creating a lively atmosphere.

In the same day, the deusi-vailo came to our maternal uncle’s house and the house
echoed with the rhythmic dance of those celebrating the festival. The joyous occasion
continued with each participant taking turns and dancing with full heart to express
their happiness. The deusi-vailo concluded, leaving behind a trail of laughter and
cherished moments.

Later in the day, I visited my grandfather's home. As night fell, we stayed at my

grandfather's house, surrounded by the warmth of familial bonds.
The day was filled with delectable dishes, laughter, and the creation of beautiful
memories that will linger in our hearts. Tihar, despite the shadows of recent loss,
became a day of togetherness and celebration of life.

2. An unforgettable event of my life
A human is the system of emotions, feelings and memories that he gains from his
experiences, visits and other incidents that leave a deep mark in his heart. A human
remembers his memories all his/her life and the life of human is literally the
composition of the events that happen in his/her life.
I also have many memories that I remember when I am recalling the events of my life.
Among the many light and dark memories of my life, the memoirs of my school
educational trip has a special place in my heart.
Our school trip was a thrilling adventure that began in Narayansthan, Nepal, a small
town nestled amidst the picturesque landscapes of the Himalayan region. Our journey
kicked off with a breathtaking start as we crossed the Kusma-Gyadi bridge, a long
bridge at high altitude which took our breath away. Boarding a school bus early in the
morning from Kushma, a beautiful town, we embarked on our educational journey
filled with enthusiasm, singing, dancing, and the promise of exciting experiences
ahead.
As the day turned to night, the enchanting beauty of our trip continued to unfold
before our eyes. A particular highlight of our journey was the sight of Kaligandaki A
Hydroelectric Power Station, its enormous turbines gleaming under the moonlight. It
was a reminder of Nepal's commitment to harnessing its natural resources for
sustainable energy production.
Then next day, upon our arrival in Palpa, we were greeted by the town's tranquil
ambiance, a stark contrast to the hustle and bustle of our daily lives. Nestled amidst
rolling hills and historical charm, Palpa held a unique allure that instantly captivated
our senses.
Our morning in Palpa began with an exhilarating climb to the Tansen View Tower,
perched atop a verdant hill. The panoramic views of the surrounding landscapes were
simply breathtaking, and we marveled at the natural beauty of the old town of Tansen,
Nepal. The tower also boasted intricate wall paintings that depicted the stunning
scenery, allowing us to immerse ourselves in the artistry of the region.

Our journey of exploration continued as we visited the Palpa Durbar Museum, an

enriching experience that unveiled historical treasures. The museum brought life to
the rich heritage of Palpa, and we absorbed valuable insights into the history and
culture of this region.

The next leg of our adventure took us to Lumbini, a place of immense spiritual
significance as the birthplace of Buddha. We explored the sacred surroundings,
including the sacred garden and the Maya Devi Temple, where Siddhartha Gautama,
who would later become the Buddha, was born. Our visit also included a stop at the

3|Page
CG Temple, a modern marvel of architecture and spirituality that added to the ethereal
atmosphere of Lumbini.

Our journey reached its crescendo in Chitwan National Park, where we embarked on a
thrilling safari adventure. Accompanied by friends, we ventured into the heart of the
park's wilderness, hoping to catch glimpses of the remarkable wildlife that calls this
place home. Throughout our safari, we were treated to sightings of various deer
species, an array of birdlife, and even the intriguing spectacle of crocodiles basking in
their natural habitat. The park's numerous lakes and water bodies added to the allure,
enhancing our appreciation of the delicate balance of nature.

Our return home marked the end of our incredible journey, but the memories we
created during our school trip will forever remain etched in our hearts. This adventure
was not just a getaway; it was an exploration of the breathtaking diversity, history,
and natural wonders of Nepal, strengthening our connection to our beautiful
homeland.

3. Autobiography: Bibek Pariyar
My name is Bibek Pariyar, and my journey through life began on a chilly Thursday
afternoon of Mangsir 21 in a small village nestled within the serene landscapes of
Baglung district. I was born into a warm and loving family, where the laughter of my
two sisters, one brother, and the gentle guidance of my parents created the foundation
of my childhood.

My father, Tanka Bahadur Pariyar, was a retired ex-Indian Army serviceman, and my
mother, Maya Devi Pariyar, dedicated her days to being a housewife. Despite the
early loss of my father, his memory remains a guiding force in my life. I recall fond
memories of our time together, especially the moment he gifted me a printer, which I
used to print a cherished photograph of my brother and me.

In my formative years, I attended the village school for my initial education,

embracing the simplicity of rural life. From there, I continued my academic journey at
the Balewa Brilliant English Boarding School until I completed class 5. Subsequently,
I pursued my studies at Shree Ganesh Secondary School, where I delved into learning
until I reached class 10. Currently, I am a student at SOS Hermann Gmeiner School
Gandaki in Pokhara, Kaski, where I am continuing my education.

Throughout my life, I have nurtured a deep passion for various interests, including
football, drawing, and reading. In these pursuits, I've had the privilege of winning
prizes in different competitions during my time in previous schools. Particularly, I've
been captivated by science and technology competitions, sparking a fascination that
continues to drive my academic journey.

As I navigated the challenges of education, I faced a significant loss when my father

passed away during my eighth-grade year. This loss temporarily impacted my
academic performance, but with determination and resilience, I managed to achieve a
respectable 4 GPA in class 10 from Shree Ganesh Secondary School.

My life has been a journey marked by family, learning, and personal growth, and I'm
eager to continue my path of self-discovery and education, nurturing my interests, and
embracing the opportunities that the future holds.

5. LETTER TO THE EDITOR

2023 November 8
Bindabasini, Pokhara

To,
The Editor,
Aadarsha Samaj National Daily,
Pokhara, Kaski, Nepal.

Subject: About the problem of drinking water problems and daily water needs.

Respected sir,
I am writing this letter to draw attention to an issue that has been affecting our
community, an issue that should concern us all deeply - the accessibility of safe
drinking water and the availability of water for day-to-day activities. Water is, indeed,
a basic necessity of life, and we find ourselves in a situation where this fundamental
requirement is increasingly at risk.
Access to safe drinking water is a right that should be guaranteed to every citizen.
However, we are facing a persistent issue where the availability of water from our
taps is highly inadequate, leading to daily inconveniences. Some days, we experience
severe water shortages, leaving us with limited access for essential tasks. Moreover,
the quality of tap water is questionable and not considered safe for drinking, forcing
us to rely on costly alternatives. To meet our drinking water needs, we have to
purchase a jar of water at a significant cost. These challenges have significantly
disrupted our daily lives and raised concerns about the effectiveness of our local water
supply and distribution systems. It is crucial that immediate attention is given to
resolving these water-related issues, ensuring the consistent availability of safe and
clean drinking water for our community.
Therefore through your esteemed columns, we seek the prompt attention of the
authorities to solve this water problem. Thanking you.

Truly Yours
B Bibek Pariyar

Impact of Social Media in a Student’s Life

By Bibek Pariyar

The term “social media” refers to the online platforms and varieties of technologies
that enable users to create, share, and interact with content in virtual communities and
networks. Social media started as a way for the users to share ideas and thoughts.
Users can connect with each other through photos, videos, music or any other form of
multimedia. They can follow trends and post various information and share them with
the virtual world. Some of the popular social media sites of recent world are
Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Twitter, Youtube, Tiktok, etc. Like every other
human, social media also has impacts on the life of students. Students can have both
positive and negative impacts from social media.

Students can learn bunch of new information and knowledge from social media.
Social media provides the latest and recent trends and news that are happening around
the world in few clicks. Also, we can find a lot of knowledge there. We can learn
skills from watching videos from various social media sites.

Students can also get good in school by utilizing the contents from the various social
media apps. Various virtual teachers and institutes are providing the formal education
for free in these social media apps. We can also get past-year papers and various tools
in an instant to help us ace our exam.

Furthermore, students can also get entertainment from social media apps. We can
watch our favorite contents like movies, music, entertainment videos, etc. from social
media.

Students can connect with their friends, family and their colleagues through social
media. They can create groups to enhance their mutual communication. Group
meetings can happen very quick so it saves the time of students.

Global awareness also grows in students. We can recall the time when all students

Like everything has its ups and downs, social media also has some bad impacts on the
life of a student. From various reports, it has been known that students are depressed
and sad more than ever. And one of the causes is Social media.

Students are having social media addiction meaning they are spending more time on
social media for things that doesn’t matter too much. They are spending their precious
time on something less important where they should have done more productive.

Also, blackmailing and online conflicts are affecting students minds and making them
more violent. Many students are becoming victim of blackmailing and are compelled
to do bad things. Many students are getting threats also.

Nonetheless, social media has its pros and cons. Students are the future builders of the
nation and the world. So, everyone including the government, the makers of social
media, the elders, the users and the students must use the social media sites in such
way that its negative parts be minimized as possible and students can have positive
impacts of it.
