General Research
Questions:
1)Can u give a short description of
your family when you were a
teenager?
Ans: As teenagers most of the people
lived in nuclear families . Several
people would live in the same house
and share the same stuff. Altough this
seems pretty chaotic to us our
grandparents were used to this and
even preffered to lived like this as they
had company and their love for their
siblings and other close relatives
increased.Family was very important at
that time.All people in the family were
close to each other and the family was
built up on love,trust and support.
2) How many people were there
in your parent’s family?
Ans:Most of the parents of our
grand parents lived in joint
families . They had many siblings
and cousins. Everyone lived in
the same house.Approximately
there were an average of 10-15
people living together.

3) With how many people did


you live in the same house?
Ans:Our grand parents lived with
m,any people including their
siblings , parents , parent’s
siblings and their respective
families. The families were huge .
The average number of people
who lived with them in the same
house was around 20 .
4) Where did you live with your
parents?
Ans:Each grandparent lived with
their parents in their respective
village where they were born.

5) Do you remember a historical
fact or an event related to India ,
Europe or world-wide from when
you were young?
Ans:Many of our grand parents
remember many events that took
place during their teenage. At
that time India was just
developing .Many wars ,terrorist
attacks , blackouts , riots
between hindu and muslims
would happen frequently .The 93
bombings in mumbai or the
terrorist attacks all around India
were historical events all
grandparents remember .

1.How important is/was your
family to you?
Ans:Family was verty important
mainly for the reasin that they
all lived together which resulted
in them havinga strong
relationship and developed a
feeling of trust and love for
eachother.

2. Could you describe your


family values?
a) Which values are/were most
important to you?
Ans:The family values which
were common in all all the
interviews was unity , trust ,
love and support .
b) Were there some values with
which you do/did not
(completely) agree?
Ans:They all agreed to their
family values which are standing
with them right now.

3.What role did religion play in


your family religious?If so, in
what way?
Ans: Yes religion played an
important role at that
time.Everyday in the morning
they would pray and visit
temples .They would have idols
of god in their house .

4.Was there a form of hierarchy


in your family?
Ans:Yes
a) Were some individual family
members deemed more
important than others?
Ans:Yes , the father of the
family was considered the
head and had to respected
all the time .However this
was not the case in all the
houses .In other houses,
everyone was treated
equally.
b) Were there specific roles for
specific members of the family?
Ans:Yes,the father had to work
for the family and the mother
had to stay at home at take care
of the children and do
housework all day with no
freedom to follow her dreams.
5.What happened with
grandparents when they couldn’t
take care of themselves
anymore?Did they go to a
retirement home or did they
(continueto) live with the rest of
the family?
Ans: In case of all families ,
when the grandparents couldn’t
take care of themselves,their
children helped them and took
care of them . they fed them
gave them sheleterand spent
time with them until their last
breath .

6.Were your parents more


permissive or authoritative?Were
you allowed to ‘talk back’ or go
into discussion with them?
Ans:yes, the parents were very
strict and any kind of mischief
was not tolerated by
them.talking back to them was
not allowed ans was often
punishable . their childhood was
rough and thus they were very
disciplined intheir future .
7.Could you openly discuss
anything in your family,or were
there some topics that couldn’t
be discussed?
Ans:No, There were certain
topics that couldn’t be
discussed freely with the family .

8.Did your parents influence the


decisions you made (such as
coice of study)?
Ans:Well , it depends from family
to family . In some families , the
parents forced their children to
choose a certain line or
profession against their will
whereas in other families ,the
children were allowed to
chooses their proffesion freely .
