THE

CHALLENGE
Hello and welcome, we are so glad you are taking this Challenge!

Introduction To The Challenge

The most famous holiday in February is Valentine’s Day, and which causes our stores
begin filling up with heart-shaped boxes of candy, oversized teddy bears, and flower
displays, while restaurants begin booking tables for Feb. 14th well in advance.

It’s the “Love Month,” at least in terms of romance and commercial products and
services to support the idea. Love is in the air in February - but where did that love
even come from? What is love - how can you define it? Why are human beings so
strongly predisposed to love?

Well, this month, we invite you to follow this Challenge and examine some of these
topics, but we’re going right to the source of love - the place where it all comes from,
and that’s from God, Maker of Heaven and Earth…and the creator of love.

In this Challenge, we’ll be looking at the Scripture that best defines what God’s love
looks like, how He expresses it, and His utterly endless, relentless, unstoppable pursuit
of loving you and me. The Reckless Love of God Challenge will lead you into a deeper
understanding of God’s love and what it means for your life here and now.

We prayerfully crafted this guidebook to help you better experience of God’s love
this month. We know that if you follow this Challenge, do the work and spend the
time with God, you’re going to have a radically changed understanding of what
God’s love looks like and why He loves so tremendously much.

God’s love is full of grace and mercy. He’s slow to anger, He’s willing to chase you, He
made you because He loved you before anyone even knew you’d exist. His love makes
no sense to our limited human minds - it’s too good, too strong, too unbelievable. And
that’s why we’re going to spend the month of February focusing on that reckless
powerful love of God.

So before you get started, read the the next couple pages to help you get oriented to
the Challenge, and start thinking ahead of how to carve out a few minutes each day to
follow in your guidebook.

We promise you - if you show up each day - you’ll realize that God’s loving arms are
already waiting for you. We’re praying for you, and would love to hear from you on
social media about how your Reckless Love of God Challenge is going!

Here’s What To Expect In The Challenge:
Daily Scripture And A Place To Write It Out:

In your guidebook, we provide you a piece of Scripture each day. Underneath that is a
box for you to write the Scripture for yourself. (If you are not printing the Challenge,
then just write it out in your journal or on some paper).

A Small Devotion

This will help explain the text for the day.

A Reflection Question

To help you process the Scripture and devotion.

A Prayer Prompt

Every day, there will be a prayer prompt, so give yourself a couple of minutes each day
to connect with God through inner prayer.

An Accompanying Worship Song

Each song we chose intentionally to help you dive deeper into God’s love for you.

And Freebie Fridays!

Every Friday we will publish a new resource that has been created just for this
Challenge. We will email you the link and you also will be prompted through your
Challenge on to where you can get the freebie for that Friday.

Ways To Put Together Your Challenge:

Print it out:
• Three-hole punch all the papers and put in a binder.
• Three-hole punch it and bind it with metal rings, ribbons, or scraps of fabric. You
could go to an office supply store or a craft store and look for ways to creatively
bind your Challenge.
• Take it to a print shop (Office Depot, Staples, etc.) and have them print it and spiral
bind it.
• Someone once showed me how they used the blank side of adult coloring sheets to
write their Challenge. Neat idea!
• The possibilities are endless for creatively putting together your Challenge!
Keep it on your phone, computer, or tablet:
• Find a program that will let you interact with the Challenge on a screen. OneNote for
Microsoft is one we have heard worked. Anything that can write on a PDF is a
possibility.
• Finally, you can simply keep an accompanying journal or notebook to fill out the
questions and write your Scripture out.

Ideas For Writing Out The Bible Verses

First And Foremost:

As you write the Scripture out, we want you to be open to God speaking to you.
Try to keep your mind situated around the text as you write. Keep yourself alert to
God's presence and what He may be speaking.

Various Ideas:
You can write out a piece of the passage that speaks the most to you.
Use a different translation.
Pick one word from the text and make a word-map.
Find a font you like and try to write it out with that font.
Use crayons, colored pencils, washi tape, stickers, etc.
Or you can simply write the passage out as it is, whatever you feel is best suited for
you!

Make Sure You Are Receiving Our Emails

Did you know your email also has filters? If you want our emails to show up in
your main box and not into spam or promotions, you must whitelist our email
address. Instructions for this is on the page you downloaded this Challenge
from: https://spirituallyhungry.com/enjoy-the-reckless-love-challenge/ (all of
the resources for the Challenge can be found at this link)

Unfortunately, even doing all of this won’t automatically ensure our email will
come through to you! I know, annoying right? That’s just how email and social
media works nowadays!
If you want to make sure you are receiving our emails and all the freebies and
giveaways, then it’s important that you open our emails when they come into
your box. When you do not open or click into emails, your email server interprets
that as though you are not interested and it can will eventually start putting that
into spam or different folders. A good tip is also to add
alexis@spirituallyhungry.com to your contacts. If you ever have trouble getting
emails, sign up again for any Challenge and go through the sign up process
again.

But before we start, in case you haven’t read this yet…

Tips For Making The Most Out Of This Challenge:

1.) Take some time, right now, and pray to God about committing to this
Challenge. It’s really easy when you first start a Challenge to say you are going to do
the entire thing. Hey, we are guilty of this too! What we want you to do is to be serious
about this Challenge and view it as a portion of your walk with Christ. It’s only a few
minutes a day and what you will reap from that small time has life-lasting reward.

2.) Connect with us and the others on social media either through the Spiritually
Hungry Challenges Facebook Group or on Instagram. There will be content unique
to these platforms, not to be found in the Challenge, and you’ll want to follow along!

3.) Please share this Challenge with others who you think would benefit from
doing it. Wouldn’t it be a fun, great Christian community building activity to do this
Challenge with some friends from church?

Why not invite them to come along? We are stronger together. They can sign up here:

The ramifications of this passage are shocking! God's love is so

comprehensive and expansive that Paul felt confident nothing could
ever separate God's love from him.

Paul sought the Lord with everything he had. In his search, Paul
learned what so many of us have a hard time with, that God loves us
just as we are and not as we should be (Rom. 5:8).

Do you have a difficulty receiving God's unconditional and relentless

This is love: not that we loved God, but
that he loved us and sent his Son as an

Thank God for
pursuing you. Thank
Him for having you in

in the Garden. Ask
Him for help in
understanding and
living in His love.

Humanity did not have a plan for redemption, but God did, and it happened
all the way back in the Garden when the first humans chose to disobey God
and sin was born.

God could have ended it all there, but He didn't. He instead enacted a plan
of redemption that can be traced throughout Scripture.

God always had you in mind when the first humans ate the forbidden fruit.
Even in their sin, He knew of your life, and said "No! I will not live with out
her. She is too important to Me for her to perish."

As such God sent a part of Himself as an atonement to rectify everyone who

would follow Him back God. In Jesus, we have no penalty, we have no debt.
All we have is love. Let that truth carry you today.

We often confuse God's love with our circumstances, especially when we are
faced with pain or turmoil.

It is important to remember that God's love is not confined to our human

perspective, nor is it contingent on us avoiding suffering or pain. If that were
so, then the Father's love would have ceased the moment Jesus felt the first
whip cracking His back as His suffering led Him toward crucifixion.

God's love didn't end when Christ faced suffering, but it was through that
suffering we found ourselves cleared of debt and rectified back to God.

your faithfulness in heaven itself.
Speak to God about
your understanding
of His love. How
often do you feel
loved by Him? Do
you think your
understanding of His
love is based more
on emotion or
knowledge?

God's love stands firm forever, nothing can remove it, nothing can
shake it.

The world we live in tries to make us doubt God's love for us.
Sometimes that doubt arises when troubles come our way or when
things don't work out the way we hoped or had prayed for.

When we believe God's love is contingent on how the world treats us,
we completely misunderstand His love. God's love surpasses anything
that we may face.

God's love is not a feeling. It's a reality.

No one has ever loved God before God first loved them. Before

before you turned to Jesus in faith - God already loved you, and
had for eternity. No one has ever "caught God's attention" by loving
Him first - He's always known and loved you!

When we love our friends, family, neighbors, and enemies - we're

sharing and spreading the love that God gave us first. God is the
source and originator of all love, and without Him, that love simply
wouldn't exist.

Jesus came as the embodiment of God’s love for us. In giving His
Son to us, God gave us part of Himself to pay the ultimate price for
our freedom and to be able to return into His love. We didn’t evoke
His love, or do anything to deserve it. He gave, and gave, and gave
- through His Son.

Have you ever wondered if God truly loves you? Although it may
be difficult at times, never forget that the greatest piece of
evidence we have of God’s love is the fact that He gave us Jesus
to model God’s love for us and to shepherd us back to Him.

Praising God can take on many forms, limited only by our

creativity. We can praise God in church worship, in a good
conversation with friends, in prayer with the broken hearted, in
our car on the way to work, sitting by the hospital bed of a sick
loved one. There are endless opportunities for praise.

God’s love is at the center of our praise. We adore Him because

His love came first. We worship Him because His love keeps
coming for us and never stops. God’s love is the focus of our
praise, the recognition of His goodness should never cease on
our part.

“Remaining in Jesus’ love” is one way to describe the entire purpose

of our Christian lives. God’s love isn’t fickle, it doesn’t ebb and flow.
God doesn’t lose interest in us. In the same way that God has loved
Jesus since before time begun, He has unstoppable love for us -
which is why He made you.

Our journey following Jesus means remaining in His love, continually

remembering and reinforcing for ourselves and others how much
God loves us. Remaining in His love is where we find our true home,
true place of worship, and the place where we are meant to be for
now and eternity.

So many people struggle with belief that God is very quick to

anger, despite what this, and many other verses, tell us about Him.

But God is patient in His expectations, temperate in His responses.

God’s unbounded love leads Him to continue loving us, despite our
failures, always willing to take us back into His strong, Fatherly
arms. Although self-doubt and shame may lead you to believe
you're not worthy, God's mercy and love is greater than your flaws.

It’s very difficult to be in a relationship with someone who holds grudges

and doesn’t let past problems go. Imagine trying to be connected to a
person who knows every single thing you’ve ever done wrong and holds it
all over your head!

But our loving God doesn’t do that. Although God is fully aware of all of our
faults, both internal and external, His love leads Him to forgive and to
accept us through Jesus, who paid the price for our sin through His
motivation of love.

In what ways has God’s forgiveness enabled you to move on with your life

God knows we are limited, and imperfect in our love, unlike Him. But He loves
us so much that He isn’t worried about how perfect our love is in return. That's
why God has made it simple for us. To love Him - adore Jesus. Calling Jesus
"our Lord" is how we begin a loving relationship with God. Our fallen selves
could never match the perfection of God's love - but He doesn't care! He
wants you, wants your love, wants to be the center of your life.

He’s made it simple for us - turn to Jesus, knowing Jesus represents us before
God (Heb. 7:25) and the Spirit prays with us (Rom. 8:26-27). God has made it so
easy for us to love Him that He has removed so many of the barriers that
might make it confusing for us.

Love is one of the most difficult emotions to describe. You might

characterize it as a “strong bond” or “an intense feeling of

attempts to define.

John wrote that “God is love.” This means that what God does,
who God is, and what God directs, all stems from His
embodiment of love. True love comes from God, extended to all
of us.

Sometimes we use the word “love” vaguely and flippantly. We

might “love” a new TV show, or “love” how our hair looks today, or
“love” a homemade meal. There’s nothing wrong with this kind of
word usage, but today we want you to reflect on the enormity of
God’s love and the way Scripture describes it to us.

God showed us His love by giving His Son to die for us. There’s
nothing small, or casual, or uncertain about that definition of love.
Instead, in giving Jesus to us - there is nothing more in all of the
universe God could have given us than Himself. How can you
even describe that level of love?

What could make it stop? The answer, of course is endless, and
nothing can stop it.

As simple humans, we can’t begin to fathom the magnitude of

God’s love. We try to create ways to categorize it and help us
understand - but our brains have limitations that God’s heart
doesn’t have. God’s love extends infinitely beyond the walls of
our sin and broken-state. Our failures are no match for His love.

We all know the lengths a good parent will go for their child.
Jesus often used analogies of a parent’s love in His teachings,
perhaps most famously the Parable of the Prodigal Son, which
depicts the father rushing out to greet his long missing child.

God’s love leads Him to declare us His children. Not His servants,
or workers - not peasants He has taken pity on. We are His
children - beloved children of the Almighty King. God’s love
bestows this status upon us - even if no one else in your world
recognizes it. And the Father is reaching out to you right now

I love the way this verse describes God’s love as a “crown.” We

may not always feel worthy of God’s love, but this verse reminds
us that God doesn’t provide His love with hesitation, but instead
with the power and dignity reserved for the recognition of royalty.

Do we deserve this treatment and lavishness of God’s love? No.

But God gives this to us anyway. God loves us far in excess of what
we deserve, but don’t fight it. Just accept that He’s that good and
that loving!

Today's Verse:
I no longer call you servants, because a servant does
not know his master’s business. Instead, I have
called you friends, for everything that I learned
from my Father I have made known to you.
Ask God to show you
what it means to be
His friend. What does
that do to shape your
knowledge of His
love? Ask God to
reveal where you'd
like your friendship
together to go next.

If you hurt or wounded a person, and they offered to forgive you

- you’d consider them a gracious human being, right? But what if
they, after all the wrong you’d caused them, offered not only
forgiveness, but also their friendship?

Can you imagine such an unbelievable friend - because that’s

who our God is.

Through the forgiveness of Jesus, we also find God’s friendship in

love. Friends are invited into our lives and our journey, which is
where Jesus calls each of us. Although He is our Lord, do you
also consider Jesus your loving friend?

Where has God loved you in the past? Usually it is easier to see things
when we look back and can see the whole picture. The challenge is to
see how God loves us currently amidst the troubles, the uncertainties,
and the unknown future.

So, for today we made an inventory sheet for you to download.

In your worksheet, you are going to take note of all the times God's love
showed up in your life. Then, you will take a good look at life now - your
hopes, concerns, troubles, and dreams. This sheet will help you better
see the vastness of God's love in your life right now, and we all can
grow in that reality, can't we?

Today's Verse:
Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also
ought to love one another. No one has ever seen
God; but if we love one another, God lives in us
and his love is made complete in us.
Spend some time
talking to God about
being able to see
Him more,
especially when
you express love
and receive love.
Ask Him for eyes to
see Him in this way.

God's love is made alive when we love others, when we embody

the way Jesus showed us how to love and the way Paul
describes perfect love (1 Corinthians 13).

Imagine if you were consciously aware that every time you

expressed love, you saw God. According to this Scripture, that's
what happens. It has happened for us, and it happens more as
we've developed eyes and the habit of looking at life in this way.

Your challenge today is to start thinking about seeing God when

you express love to others. How might that affect your life and
your relationship with God?

God's love has added
to your life. Ask Him
to reveal ways His
love has changed
you that you had

before. Pray for more
awareness of how His
love affects you.

God’s love for Jesus led God to raise Him from the dead. The life
breathed into Jesus through God’s love is what Christ offers us still
today. God’s love is life-giving, chain-breaking, shame-removing,
worry-ceasing, lie-exposing, darkness-shedding, heart-expanding,
without fail.

The power and love that raised Jesus is the same that God is
extending to you? Can you embrace it? Can you feel it? His love is
right beside you, right now. His love will bring you true life.

Today's Verse:
Father, I want those you have given me to be with
me where I am, and to see my glory, the glory you
have given me because you loved me before the
creation of the world. What would time well
spent with God look
like for you? Pray and
ask God to help you
think about what
quality time spent with
Him might look like in
your own life. Ask Him
to reveal new ways to
connect to Him and
show love to Him.

We want to be together with the ones we love, right? Although

relationships take on many forms - and can span great distances
- the ultimate destination for love is togetherness. Jesus
understood that as He prayed to His Father on the final evening
of His life. Jesus also knew that the torment He was about to
endure was all for love, and the hope that those He loves - us -
would one day spend eternity with Him.

Jesus died for love and to bring us all home to Him. His act of
sacrifice is the purest expression - and He made it for you.

for many people, but
it's a central part of
our worship. Ask God
to show you His love
in worship, and to
help you sing boldly
of his love.

Worship is an opportunity to express the deepest appreciation of

God’s infinite love. Although our words can never fully encompass
the magnitude of God’s love, He still accepts our worship now, in
Christ and through the Spirit, and wants us to turn to Him.

Reflection Question:
Are there ways you find to worship God outside of church? Do you
feel God's love in worship? Ask God to help you think more closely
about your worship and the love He desires to show you as you
praise Him.

Today's Verse:
But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those
who persecute you, that you may be children of your
Father in heaven. He causes his sun to rise on the
evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous
and the unrighteous.
Spend time in prayer
for enemies in your life,
be they big or small.
Ask God to show His
love to them, and
process feelings that
arise within you as a
result of this prayer.

God even loves those who hate Him. God doesn’t withhold the
sustenance of life - air, sunshine, water, food, family,
relationships, from anyone, regardless of their connection to Him.
We’re called to love our enemies because that’s what God does,
and to be holy is to be like Him.

God loves with a reckless abandonment that no other human

being could possibly sustain. God doesn’t just love enemies
emotionally - His love compels Him to give the most valuable
resources of sustenance in the universe to them also.
Reflection Question:
Who are your “enemies?” What would it look like to love your
enemies unabashedly, the way our God does?

of His love moving

Central to our Christian faith is the idea that God's love has brought us to life
from the death of sin (e.g. Eph. 2:1, Col. 2:13). If there is anyway what we might
express the enormity of God's love in one final reflection this month, it's this:
you are alive because of God's love for you.

If you've accepted Jesus, if you've created a connection to God - you're

finding true life in His love. It may be difficult at times, and it is a journey, but
the decision to follow the love of Jesus is the first step toward the eternal life.
We first experience His love here and now, but this is just a shadow of the
eternal future in perfect presence with His love. We have the rest of our lives -
and the life to come - to abide in the unending presence of His love. That's
what our amazing God offers us.
