Reckless Love of God Challenge
Reckless Love of God Challenge
THE
CHALLENGE
Hello and welcome, we are so glad you are taking this Challenge!
It’s the “Love Month,” at least in terms of romance and commercial products and
services to support the idea. Love is in the air in February - but where did that love
even come from? What is love - how can you define it? Why are human beings so
strongly predisposed to love?
Well, this month, we invite you to follow this Challenge and examine some of these
topics, but we’re going right to the source of love - the place where it all comes from,
and that’s from God, Maker of Heaven and Earth…and the creator of love.
In this Challenge, we’ll be looking at the Scripture that best defines what God’s love
looks like, how He expresses it, and His utterly endless, relentless, unstoppable pursuit
of loving you and me. The Reckless Love of God Challenge will lead you into a deeper
understanding of God’s love and what it means for your life here and now.
We prayerfully crafted this guidebook to help you better experience of God’s love
this month. We know that if you follow this Challenge, do the work and spend the
time with God, you’re going to have a radically changed understanding of what
God’s love looks like and why He loves so tremendously much.
God’s love is full of grace and mercy. He’s slow to anger, He’s willing to chase you, He
made you because He loved you before anyone even knew you’d exist. His love makes
no sense to our limited human minds - it’s too good, too strong, too unbelievable. And
that’s why we’re going to spend the month of February focusing on that reckless
powerful love of God.
So before you get started, read the the next couple pages to help you get oriented to
the Challenge, and start thinking ahead of how to carve out a few minutes each day to
follow in your guidebook.
We promise you - if you show up each day - you’ll realize that God’s loving arms are
already waiting for you. We’re praying for you, and would love to hear from you on
social media about how your Reckless Love of God Challenge is going!
In your guidebook, we provide you a piece of Scripture each day. Underneath that is a
box for you to write the Scripture for yourself. (If you are not printing the Challenge,
then just write it out in your journal or on some paper).
A Small Devotion
A Reflection Question
A Prayer Prompt
Every day, there will be a prayer prompt, so give yourself a couple of minutes each day
to connect with God through inner prayer.
Each song we chose intentionally to help you dive deeper into God’s love for you.
Every Friday we will publish a new resource that has been created just for this
Challenge. We will email you the link and you also will be prompted through your
Challenge on to where you can get the freebie for that Friday.
As you write the Scripture out, we want you to be open to God speaking to you.
Try to keep your mind situated around the text as you write. Keep yourself alert to
God's presence and what He may be speaking.
Various Ideas:
You can write out a piece of the passage that speaks the most to you.
Use a different translation.
Pick one word from the text and make a word-map.
Find a font you like and try to write it out with that font.
Use crayons, colored pencils, washi tape, stickers, etc.
Or you can simply write the passage out as it is, whatever you feel is best suited for
you!

Unfortunately, even doing all of this won’t automatically ensure our email will
come through to you! I know, annoying right? That’s just how email and social
media works nowadays!
If you want to make sure you are receiving our emails and all the freebies and
giveaways, then it’s important that you open our emails when they come into
your box. When you do not open or click into emails, your email server interprets
that as though you are not interested and it can will eventually start putting that
into spam or different folders. A good tip is also to add
alexis@spirituallyhungry.com to your contacts. If you ever have trouble getting
emails, sign up again for any Challenge and go through the sign up process
again.
2.) Connect with us and the others on social media either through the Spiritually
Hungry Challenges Facebook Group or on Instagram. There will be content unique
to these platforms, not to be found in the Challenge, and you’ll want to follow along!
3.) Please share this Challenge with others who you think would benefit from
doing it. Wouldn’t it be a fun, great Christian community building activity to do this
Challenge with some friends from church?
Why not invite them to come along? We are stronger together. They can sign up here:

Paul sought the Lord with everything he had. In his search, Paul
learned what so many of us have a hard time with, that God loves us
just as we are and not as we should be (Rom. 5:8).
Humanity did not have a plan for redemption, but God did, and it happened
all the way back in the Garden when the first humans chose to disobey God
and sin was born.
God could have ended it all there, but He didn't. He instead enacted a plan
of redemption that can be traced throughout Scripture.
God always had you in mind when the first humans ate the forbidden fruit.
Even in their sin, He knew of your life, and said "No! I will not live with out
her. She is too important to Me for her to perish."

We often confuse God's love with our circumstances, especially when we are
faced with pain or turmoil.
God's love didn't end when Christ faced suffering, but it was through that
suffering we found ourselves cleared of debt and rectified back to God.
God's love stands firm forever, nothing can remove it, nothing can
shake it.
The world we live in tries to make us doubt God's love for us.
Sometimes that doubt arises when troubles come our way or when
things don't work out the way we hoped or had prayed for.
When we believe God's love is contingent on how the world treats us,
we completely misunderstand His love. God's love surpasses anything
that we may face.
No one has ever loved God before God first loved them. Before
you were born, before you were cognizant of God's existence,
before you turned to Jesus in faith - God already loved you, and
had for eternity. No one has ever "caught God's attention" by loving
Him first - He's always known and loved you!
Jesus came as the embodiment of God’s love for us. In giving His
Son to us, God gave us part of Himself to pay the ultimate price for
our freedom and to be able to return into His love. We didn’t evoke
His love, or do anything to deserve it. He gave, and gave, and gave
- through His Son.
Have you ever wondered if God truly loves you? Although it may
be difficult at times, never forget that the greatest piece of
evidence we have of God’s love is the fact that He gave us Jesus
to model God’s love for us and to shepherd us back to Him.
Worship Song:
"King Of Love" by I am they
Every day spent in God’s love is new and different. God has
endless surprises for us, although many troubles in this life remain.
But God’s love prevails; it supersedes all hurt and pain.
Reflection Question:
How has God been slow to anger in your life?

Today's Verse:
If we are “out of our mind,” as some say, it is for
God; if we are in our right mind, it is for you.
For Christ’s love compels us, because we are

understand what
motivates you. Ask
Him to help you be
motivated more by
His love.
What are the biggest motivators in your life? Most people’s lives are
driven by relationships, career, finances, education, and other goals
and pursuits.
But it’s God’s intention that Christ’s love drive us and compel us, that
the immensity of God’s love overwhelm our lives and consume us
to connect with Him and serve others. God’s love is a blueprint for
our lives, molding and shaping our lives - if we allow Him to work in
us this way.
Reflection Question:
Is God’s love a driving force in your life? How has God’s love
compelled you in new directions?
But our loving God doesn’t do that. Although God is fully aware of all of our
faults, both internal and external, His love leads Him to forgive and to
accept us through Jesus, who paid the price for our sin through His
motivation of love.
Reflection Question:
In what ways has God’s forgiveness enabled you to move on with your life
and draw nearer to God? How has His love given you a fresh start, time and
time again?
God knows we are limited, and imperfect in our love, unlike Him. But He loves
us so much that He isn’t worried about how perfect our love is in return. That's
why God has made it simple for us. To love Him - adore Jesus. Calling Jesus
"our Lord" is how we begin a loving relationship with God. Our fallen selves
could never match the perfection of God's love - but He doesn't care! He
wants you, wants your love, wants to be the center of your life.
He’s made it simple for us - turn to Jesus, knowing Jesus represents us before
God (Heb. 7:25) and the Spirit prays with us (Rom. 8:26-27). God has made it so
easy for us to love Him that He has removed so many of the barriers that
might make it confusing for us.
WORSHIP SONG:
"JESUS LOVES ME" by CHRIS TOMLIN
John wrote that “God is love.” This means that what God does,
who God is, and what God directs, all stems from His
embodiment of love. True love comes from God, extended to all
of us.
Isn't it so loving when someone plans something for you? When they
think of you and prepare something for you to enjoy. Maybe it's your
favorite meal or a surprise gift or outing. Don't you just feel so special,
so loved when things like this happen?
Now take those experiences you have had and multiply them a
million times and that is what God does for each and everyone of us
for our entire life.
God is planning the best future for you. He is working on making you
a new creation. And that is not just in Heaven, but for life here on
Earth. He has plans for you, stay close to Him and choose to feel His
constant love that embodies you this very moment.
Worship Song: "Fullness" by Elevation Worship
God showed us His love by giving His Son to die for us. There’s
nothing small, or casual, or uncertain about that definition of love.
Instead, in giving Jesus to us - there is nothing more in all of the
universe God could have given us than Himself. How can you
even describe that level of love?
Worship Song:
"Greatest of these" by Hillsong United
Where do the limits of God’s love end? How far does it reach?
What could make it stop? The answer, of course is endless, and
nothing can stop it.
WORSHIP SONG:
"Ever Be" by Aaron Shust
We all know the lengths a good parent will go for their child.
Jesus often used analogies of a parent’s love in His teachings,
perhaps most famously the Parable of the Prodigal Son, which
depicts the father rushing out to greet his long missing child.
God’s love leads Him to declare us His children. Not His servants,
or workers - not peasants He has taken pity on. We are His
children - beloved children of the Almighty King. God’s love
bestows this status upon us - even if no one else in your world
recognizes it. And the Father is reaching out to you right now
through the arms of Jesus - embrace Him!
WORSHIP SONG:
"LOVE HAS A NAME" by JESUS CULTURE
WORSHIP SONG:
"EXCESS LOVE" by MERCY CHINWO
Where has God loved you in the past? Usually it is easier to see things
when we look back and can see the whole picture. The challenge is to
see how God loves us currently amidst the troubles, the uncertainties,
and the unknown future.
In your worksheet, you are going to take note of all the times God's love
showed up in your life. Then, you will take a good look at life now - your
hopes, concerns, troubles, and dreams. This sheet will help you better
see the vastness of God's love in your life right now, and we all can
grow in that reality, can't we?

God’s love for Jesus led God to raise Him from the dead. The life
breathed into Jesus through God’s love is what Christ offers us still
today. God’s love is life-giving, chain-breaking, shame-removing,
worry-ceasing, lie-exposing, darkness-shedding, heart-expanding,
without fail.
The power and love that raised Jesus is the same that God is
extending to you? Can you embrace it? Can you feel it? His love is
right beside you, right now. His love will bring you true life.
WORSHIP SONG:
"In The Hands Of the Potter" By casting crowns
Jesus died for love and to bring us all home to Him. His act of
sacrifice is the purest expression - and He made it for you.

Reflection Question:
Are there ways you find to worship God outside of church? Do you
feel God's love in worship? Ask God to help you think more closely
about your worship and the love He desires to show you as you
praise Him.
WORSHIP SONG:
"FOREVER REIGN" by HILLSONG
God even loves those who hate Him. God doesn’t withhold the
sustenance of life - air, sunshine, water, food, family,
relationships, from anyone, regardless of their connection to Him.
We’re called to love our enemies because that’s what God does,
and to be holy is to be like Him.
Central to our Christian faith is the idea that God's love has brought us to life
from the death of sin (e.g. Eph. 2:1, Col. 2:13). If there is anyway what we might
express the enormity of God's love in one final reflection this month, it's this:
you are alive because of God's love for you.
