tropics, due to the warm climate and high primary productivity in the area around the equator,
biodiversity is typically higher. Approximately 90% of all species on Earth are found in tropical forest
ecosystems, which occupy less than 10% of the planet's surface. In the mid-latitudinal band of all
oceans and along the coasts of the Western Pacific, where sea surface temperature is highest,
marine biodiversity is typically higher. The diversity of species is stratified along latitudinal lines.
