SWOT Analysis of WhatsApp pay

 Strengths
1. WhatsApp has a huge and global customer base. Over 2 billion people as of today use it
worldwide; to stay in touch with families, to keep in touch with friends and to discuss
business plans with employees.
2. The app now has the funds and support from Facebook for all administrative and legal
support. Facebook with its deep pockets can fund the WhatsApp.
3. It makes huge investment in R&D activities.
4. Company has good financial health
5. There is almost 100% availability of WhatsApp. Websites and apps go down here and
there, but you can rely on WhatsApp for its fantastic connectivity.
6. Business owners appreciate the apps constant uptime. If communication between
employees were to stagnate, it’d be difficult to keep the business running smoothly.
7. It is a zero-bug software.
8. It works on Android, Windows and iOS,
9. WhatsApp is easy to download, set up, and use.
10. WhatsApp does use end-to-end encryption for their messages, meaning only the person
who gets your message can read or view it. WhatsApp themselves can’t view or
intercept those messages.
11. Reputation in global market is good.

 Weakness
1. Data privacy is the biggest concern for WhatsApp. Since Facebook the parent company
of WhatsApp has got into lot of trouble in past for its privacy issues.
2. WhatsApp requires internet to work. If the user doesn’t have access to mobile data or
wifi, he/she cannot user the app. This means there are certain rural areas and some
potential consumers who can’t download or use the app.

 Opportunity
1. Every growing customer base
2. It has collaborated with local players in different countries to expand its business
operations
3. Internet is now becoming available to previously inaccessible areas. So, WhatsApp has
the opportunity to expand into new regions.

 Threat
1. Anyone can build a similar app. There are competitors like Snapchat and telegram built
on similar lines. It doesn’t cost much to build such an app.
2. It is a late entrant in the payment arena. Google Pay and other competitors are well
entrenched.
3. Banks want to get into similar payment space themselves.
4. Since it’s a software end of the day it is susceptible to security bugs, malware, and
viruses.
5. Government regulations are getting stricter in the payment arena
6. Users may already have other payment apps on their mobile phone and may not register
for WhatsApp pay feature.
7. If the experience of money transfer is not seamless the user will not derive the optimal
experience of using WhatsApp pay and he may discontinue to use it.
8. If User interface is not very simple to understand user may not use WhatsApp pay
9. Competitors may offer various schemes, cashbacks to deter people from using
WhatsApp pay.

where it has 400 million users followed by rest of the world.

Usability:
The screens should be self-explanatory and very user friendly. The users should not find
the system cumbersome.
