INTRODUCTION
Student success in the classroom and overall well-being are strongly correlated with mental health. It is
made up of numerous components, including social, psychological, and emotional well-being, all of
which have a big impact on how well a student function overall. Academic performance can be hampered
by mental health issues that cause problems with motivation, focus, and problem-solving. However, a
student's awareness and cognitive abilities can be enhanced by maintaining excellent mental health, and
this can result in greater learning outcomes and general academic achievement. Students are becoming
more conscious of mental health issues, but they are still unaware of how crucial they are to their
academic performance. Many students suffer from mental health conditions like stress, anxiety, and
depression, which can impair their concentration, engagement, and academic performance. It is critical to
examine the relationship between mental health and academic achievement to develop effective strategies
that serve students and general welfare and educational needs.
At Colegio De San Francisco Javier, we recognize the profound impact that mental health has on
academic performance and student well-being. Based on this understanding, our social work program is
designed to provide essential support and resources to meet the diverse mental health needs of students.
Recognizing the unique challenges and stresses that students face, we have implemented programs and
initiatives that promote mental health awareness, provide access to counseling services, and provide
resources to build emotional resilience. In addition, we have created a supportive network of teachers,
counselors, and peers who all work together to ensure that students feel valued and understood as they
navigate their academic and personal growth. Through collaboration with students, families, educators,
and mental health professionals, our social work program aims to promote discussion about mental
health, promote self-care practices, and facilitate access to community resources. By integrating mental
health awareness into our school culture, we empower students to proactively seek help, build resilience,
and develop important coping skills to manage stress and emotional turmoil. Our social work team is
committed to creating a supportive and inclusive environment where students feel valued, heard, and
understood, ensuring that their mental health remains a priority alongside their academic pursuits. Taking
a holistic approach to student well-being, Colegio De San Francisco Javier is committed to fostering the
emotional and psychological growth of students so they can succeed academically and personally. The
pursuit of academic excellence requires recognition of the diversity of student well-being and its inherent
relationship to academic achievement. The first chapter of this research seeks to explore the critical
importance of mental health to students' awareness of academic performance and its profound impact on
their ability to succeed in academia. This chapter examines the complex relationship between mental
health and academic achievement to highlight the critical role of emotional and psychological well-being
in creating an optimal environment for learning, cognitive growth, and overall student achievement.
Through both empirical research and theoretical analysis, this chapter attempts to shed light on the
complex process of promoting mental health awareness as a catalyst for long-term academic success. The
purpose of this study is to investigate how students' mental health affects their awareness and how it
affects their academic performance. The main purpose of the chapter is to explore the complex
relationship between mental health and the cognitive, emotional, and behavioral domains of students and
how this relationship shapes their awareness and skills in the academic domain. This chapter sets the
stage for an in-depth study and explains the critical role mental health plays in students' overall well-
being and academic success.
Theoretical Framework
According to the World Health Organization (2014), mental health is a state of well-being in which
individuals can realize their potential, cope with the normal stresses of life, work productively and
fruitfully, and contribute to the community. Galderisi et al (2015) defined mental health as a dynamic
state of internal equilibrium that enables individuals to utilize their abilities in harmony with the universal
values of society. The fundamental cognitive and social abilities, including the ability to recognize,
articulate, and regulate one's own emotions, as well as empathize with others, as well as the flexibility and
capacity to cope with adverse life events and fulfill social roles, are crucial components of mental health,
and they play a significant role in achieving internal equilibrium in varying degrees. As adolescents
traverse the transitional period between childhood and adulthood, they are faced with a diverse array of
stressors. Kaur (2014) posits that "the escalating expectations of parents regarding academic performance
and scores can sometimes impose an additional burden on children, resulting in numerous physical or
mental ailments." According to Madlan (2004),' mental health is a way of thinking, feeling, and behavior
in a person's daily lives.' Individuals who possess positive mental health are capable of recognizing their
abilities, willingness to accept failure, ability to manage their emotions, and appreciation for their self-
worth.
Objectives of the Study
1. To determine the relationship between mental health and student awareness toward
academic performance.
2. To identify the effects of poor mental health on students' motivation, concentration,
and problem-solving abilities.
3. To propose strategies that can promote positive mental health among students and
improve their academic performance.
Conceptual Framework
The conceptual framework for this research would be multi-faceted and could include the
following key components:
1. What is the relationship between mental health and student awareness of academic
performance?

CHAPTER II
REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE
In this chapter, we will explore the existing literature related to the significance of mental
health on student’s awareness and its impact on academic performance. The review of related
literature will cover various aspects including the correlation between mental health and
academic performance, the influence of student awareness on mental health, and the
interventions or strategies to promote mental well-being among students.
The Correlation Between Mental Health and Academic Performance Numerous studies have
indicated a strong association between mental health and academic performance among students.
Research conducted by Smith and Jones (2018) found that students experiencing high levels of
stress and anxiety were more likely to demonstrate lower academic achievement.
Similarly, a study by Brown et al. (2019) highlighted the negative impact of depression on
student’s cognitive functioning and learning abilities. These findings emphasize the importance
of addressing mental health concerns to support student’s academic success.
Influence of Student Awareness on Mental Health Student awareness plays a crucial role in
addressing mental health issues. Research by Johnson (2017) revealed that students who have a
better understanding of mental health are more likely to seek help when needed and engage in
self-care practices. Additionally, awareness campaigns and educational programs have been
shown to increase student’s knowledge about mental health and reduce the stigma associated
with seeking support. Understanding the perceptions and attitudes of students towards mental
health is essential in developing effective initiatives to promote well-being within educational
settings.
Interventions and Strategies for Promoting Mental Well-being Various interventions and
strategies have been implemented to promote mental well-being among students. One approach
is the integration of mental health literacy programs within school curricula.
These programs aim to enhance student’s understanding of mental health, develop coping skills,
and provide resources for seeking help. Additionally, the establishment of support services such
as counseling centers and peer support groups has been effective in addressing the mental health
needs of students. Furthermore, technology-based interventions, including mental health apps
and online resources, have been increasingly utilized to provide accessible support for students.
CHAPTER III
METHODOLOGY
This chapter outlines the methodology employed to investigate the significance of mental
health to student awareness toward academic performance. It discusses the research design, data
collection, methods, sampling techniques, and data analysis procedures used in this study.
Additionally, it examines the ethical considerations and limitations of the research.
Research Design
This study adopts a quantitative research design to examine the relationship between mental
health and student awareness of its impact on academic performance. A quantitative approach is
suitable for this research as it allows for collecting numerical data that can be analyzed
statistically to identify patterns and relationships between variables. This design enables the
researcher to gather empirical evidence and draw generalizable conclusions about the
significance of mental health in academic performance.
Research Instrument
Data Collection Methods
To gather data for this study, a structured survey questionnaire will be administered to a sample
of students. The survey will include items that assess students’ awareness of mental health
issues, their perceived impact on academic performance, and their attitudes toward seeking help
for mental health concerns. The questionnaire will also include demographic questions to gather
information about the participants’ age, gender, grade, level, and academic performance.
Sampling Techniques
The target population for this study is undergraduate students enrolled in the social work
department First-year students. A stratified random sampling technique will be used to select
participants from different cohorts to ensure that the sample is representative of the entire student
population.
Stratification will be based on factors such as academic program, year of study, and gender to
capture a diverse range of perspectives.
Data Analysis Procedures
Once the survey data is collected, it will be coded and entered into a statistical analysis software
program for analysis. Descriptive statistics, such as frequencies and percentages, will be used to
summarize the demographic characteristics of the participants and their responses to the survey
items. Inferential statistical tests, such as correlation analysis and regression analysis, will be
employed to examine the relationships between mental health awareness and academic
performance.
Ethical Considerations
The ethical considerations of this research are paramount. Informed consent will be obtained
from all participants before they take part in the study. They will be provided with information
