Removing the dashboard


Special tools: 981 4071

Preparations

- Make a note of radio code


- Switch off the ignition
- Disconnect the battery negative lead.
Note! Wait at least five minutes before carrying
out work on the car.

Removing the panels for the dashboard

Remove:
- the rear centre console according to Rear
centre console
- the front centre console according to Front
centre console
- the side panels on the centre console
according to Centre console panels
- the soundproofing panel on the driver's side
according to Driver's side soundproofing
- the soundproofing panel on the passenger
side according to Passenger side
soundproofing
- the combined instrument panel according to
Driver information module (DIM),
installation/removal, component replacement
- the radio panel according to The radio panel
- the dashboard environment panel according
to Dashboard environment panel
- the A-post panel according to Upper A-post
panel .
Open the glove compartment.
Remove:
- the two screws
- the storage compartment using a twisting
movement.

Removing the loudspeaker from the dashboard

- Remove the loudspeaker grille


- Lift the loudspeaker out of the dashboard.
Disconnect the connector.

Disconnecting the wiring and the bonnet latch

Remove:
- the central electronic module (CEM)
according to Replacing central electronic
module (CEM)
- the cable. First unhook the cable from the
bonnet catch
- the screw (A) at the front of the dashboard
- the screw from the top of the bracket
- the bracket
- brown and blue connectors by the side of the
fusebox from the cable harness
- the connectors from the cable harness.
Press the grey marked 24–pin connector out
through the opening on the reverse of the
dashboard.
Remove the blue connector for VGLA.
Remove the clips from the cable harness.

Disconnecting airbags

Disconnect the orange 4–pin connector for the


passenger side airbag at the right-hand side of
the centre console.

Removing the dashboard

Note! Two people are required for this operation.


- Remove the screws as illustrated
- Cars equipped with airbags on the passenger
side have two screws in the glove
compartment which must be removed
- Cover the upper steering shaft cover with a
cloth. This is to prevent damage
- Disconnect the dashboard. Remove the
dashboard.

Installing the dashboard

Note! Before installation: Check that all


components are correctly installed.
Note! Two people are required for this operation.
- Align the dashboard carefully.
Install:
- the upper screw by hand
- the screw for the passenger airbag module in
the glove compartment
- the remaining screws.
Check the positioning of the dashboard.
Tighten the screw. Tighten to 12 Nm.
Connecting the passenger airbag module

Connect the orange 4–pin connector for the


passenger airbag module at the right-hand side
of the centre console.

Installing the loudspeaker and loudspeaker grille


on the passenger side

Install:
- the connector in the loudspeaker
- the loudspeaker in the dashboard.
Note! See the illustration for the location.
Install the rear edge of the loudspeaker grille
and press the front edge into position.
Note! Start on the right-hand side.

Installing the dashboard bracket and the bonnet


catch

Install:
- the two connectors from the cable harness
for the dashboard
- the blue and brown connectors from the
dashboard cable harness
- the bracket and install the upper screw by
hand
- the bonnet catch and the three screws.
Tighten to 10 Nm
- the cable from the bonnet catch
- the cable harness clips in the dashboard
- the screw for the dashboard in the bracket (A)
- The central electronic module (CEM)
according to Replacing central electronic
module (CEM) .
Installing the loudspeaker and loudspeaker grille
on the driver's side

Install:
- the connector in the loudspeaker
- the loudspeakers in the dashboard
the loudspeaker grille.

- the loudspeaker grille.

Installing components

Install:
- the combined instrument panel according to
Driver information module (DIM),
installation/removal, component replacement
- the comfort control module according to
Comfort module
- the radio panel according to The radio panel
- the front centre console according to Front
centre console
- the rear centre console according to Rear
centre console
- the soundproofing panel according to Driver's
side soundproofing and Passenger side
soundproofing
- the upper A-post panel according to Upper A-
post panel .
Final check

Note! When all components have been


reinstalled and secured, proceed as follows:
- First switch on the ignition
- Connect the battery negative terminal
- Check that the SRS warning light on the
dashboard goes out.
Warning! Ensure that nobody is in the car when
the battery is being connected.
- Enter the radio code
- Set the clock.

Transferring dashboard components


Transferring components

Note! Place the dashboard on at least three cm

thick foam rubber with the reverse facing up.


Transfer:
- the passenger side air bag according to
Passenger airbag module
- the four screws for the air ducts
- the two screws for the glove compartment
- the central ventilation vent
- the nozzles according to The outer ventilation
vent in the dashboard and The centre
ventilation vents in the dashboard
- the VGLA unit according to VGLA control
module
- the RTI unit
- the dashboard cable harness.

The radio panel


Removing the radio panel

Make a note of the radio code.


Press in the catches to release them.
Grip the catches. Pull the radio out.
Disconnect the connector.
If required: Remove the compartment from the
centre console.

Remove:
- the dashboard environment panel according
to Dashboard environment panel
- the three screws for the bracket
- the centre console.
If required: Disconnect the connector.

Installing the radio panel

Install:
- the centre console
- the three screws for the bracket
- the dashboard environment panel according
to Dashboard environment panel
- the radio.

If required: Install the glove compartment in the


centre console.
Enter the anti-theft radio code.

Dashboard environment panel


Special tools: 981 4071

Removing the dashboard environment panel

1.
Carefully install weatherstrip tool 981 4071
between the dashboard and the bottom edge of
the panel.
Pull the bottom edge of the panel outwards.
2.
Press the panel up slightly.
Carefully pull the upper edge of the panel
outwards.
Remove the panel.
Installing the dashboard environment panel
Install the panel above the dashboard
environment panel.
Press the panel into place.
Check the alignment of the panel to the
dashboard environment panel.
Check the functions of the switch and the knob.

Comfort module
Special tools: 981 4071

Preparations
Prepare the car according toNote when
disconnecting and connecting the battery lead .
Removing the comfort module

Remove:
- the panel. See Dashboard environment panel
- the radio panel according toThe radio panel

Twist the dashboard environment panel
downwards.
Remove:
- the connector (GR)
- the air hose.

Installing the comfort module


Note! Transfer the required components from
the old unit to the new unit.
Install:
- the air hose
- the connector (GR)
- the comfort module
- the two screws
- the radio panel according toThe radio panel
- the panel according toDashboard
environment panel .
Finishing work
Reset the car. See Note when disconnecting and
connecting the battery lead .
Program the comfort module and the switch for
the seat heater pad. SeeProgramming the
climate control module .

Rear centre console


Removing the rear centre console

Remove:
- the rubber underlay (1)
- the gear selector panel (2) by pressing in the
lugs.
Manual transmissions only:
Press in the clip and remove the gear selector
lever boot.
Apply the handbrake.
Remove the guard (3) and screw (4).
Pull the rear centre console upwards at the front
edge. Remove the gray connector.
Remove the rear centre console.

Installing the rear centre console


Install:
- the gray connector
- the rear centre console
- the screw (4) and guard (3)
- the gear selector panel (2). Check that the clip
has engaged
- Manual transmissions only: the gear selector
lever boot
- the rubber underlay (1).

Front centre console


Removing the front centre console

Remove the rear centre console according to


Rear centre console .
Make a note of the anti-theft radio code.
Remove:
- the radio and connector
- the two screws at the front edge
- the front centre console with a twisting
movement.

Installing front centre console


Slide the front centre console over the gear shift
selector with a twisting movement.
Position the front centre console correctly.
Slide the front centre console over the guide
under the dashboard and the side panels for the
front centre console.
Install:
- the two screws at the front edge
- the rear centre console according to Rear
centre console
- the connector for the radio
- the radio.
Enter the anti-theft radio code.

Rear centre console components

Removing the armrest

Remove:
- the rear centre console according to Rear
centre console
- the waste paper basket(A)
- the two screws
- the rear panel (B) carefully. Use weatherstrip
tool 981 4071
- the four screws
- the armrest assembly.

Installing the armrest


Install:
- the armrest
- the four screws
- the rear panel (B) carefully
- the two screws
- the waste paper basket(A)
- the rear centre console according to Rear
centre console

Removing and installing the mug holder


Removing the mug holder

Open the armrest on the rear centre console.


Remove:
- the four screws underneath the armrest
- the cover (A) for the armrest
- the mug holder (B).

Installing the mug holder


Install:
- the mug holder (B)
- the cover (A) for the armrest
- the four screws underneath the armrest.
Check the function of the armrest and mug
holder.

Removing and installing the 12 volt


socket

Removing the 12 volt socket

Remove the rear centre console according to


Rear centre console .
Slide the grey connector from the catch.
Open the catches. Remove the 12 volt socket.

Installing the 12 volt socket


Install the 12 volt socket. Check that it is secure.
Slide the grey connector on the catch.
Install the rear centre console according to Rear
centre console .

Remove:
- the rear centre console according to Rear

- the four screws
- the front centre console locker
- the front armrest according to Removing the

- the four screws

If there is damage: replace the cover.

Install:
- the rear centre console locker
- the four screws
- the front armrest according to Installing the
armrest
- the front centre console locker
- the four screws
- the rear centre console according to Rear

Centre console panels


Removing panels from the centre console

Remove the screw (A).


Pull the panel out of the centre console using a
twisting action.
Pull the panel backwards.
Remove the tie strap and clips from the heater
unit.

Installing the centre console panels

Install:
- the tie strap with clips on the panel
- the panel under the centre console
- the screw.
Check the alignment.

Steering column panels


Removing panels

Remove:
- the three screws
- the lower panel.
Lower the steering column to its lowest
position.
Remove the upper panel.

Installing the steering column panels


Install the upper panel.
Raise the steering column to its uppermost
position.
Install:
- the lower panel
the three screws.
