according the checklist shown in chapter 4.

WARNING
Before performing the following service tasks, unplug the power plug of the cabinet in order
to avoid any risk of electrical shock.

It must be ensured the right fixing of the frontal cover by means of the two roods that are
supplied for such purpose.

REMARK
When it is required for the specific service task, the frontal cover must be raised or put back
to the closed position only when the glass is in the closed position. The contacts of the
frontal cover must be pushed back manually.

2.1. FUSE OF THE POWER SOCKET

The main power socket has inside a protection fuse.
In order to replace this fuse it is necessary to open the cover where it is located, take the

5.5. CALIBRATION OF THE CABINET

The purpose of this technical instruction is to regulate and check that the impulsion speed
flow and inflow are suitable to achieve product and user protection. To determine the speed
average as well as the uniformity range in the laminar flow zone and velocity through the
front aperture of the microbiological safety cabinet.

INSTRUMENTATION

• The tool to use is an omnidirectional anemometer with a support

• Unidireccional anemometer
• Meter, calculator, permanent felt-tip pen or squares template.

METHODOLOGY

1. Switch on the cabinet (the front glass should be in the working position and should not
be any alarm except the laminar flow or extraction).

2. In the upper side open the extraction regulator flow as shown in the pictures below. (Bio-
II-Advance 6 do not assembly these parts)

Bio-II-Advance 3 Bio-II-Advance 4 Bio-II-Advance 6

3. Go to Technical service Menu

4. Select size model (3,4,6). Adjust the set point extraction to 0.55 m/s and adjust the
impulsion set point to 0.35 m/s.

5. Go to calibration menu

6. Waiting at least 2 minutes. The cabinet is working now at constant fans voltage.

7. Take 5 velocity readings at 2.5 cm over the protective grills or at the level of the slot of
the exhaust, as indicated below. Enter the average exhaust velocity.

Unidirectional anemometer exhaust position

8. Then, measure the impulsion flow. (8 points in Bio-II-Advance 3, 8 points in Bio-II-
Advance 4 and 12 points in Bio-II-Advance 6, see calibration pattern in Annex A9.3 of
the User’s Manual to see the reading point situation and order for each model).

9. Place the anemometer at 270mm high of the shelves, over each point (take all readings
with the anemometer in the same direction and without covering any hole).

10. Take all the reading velocity needed and enter the average velocity

11. Once again, take 5 exhaust readings and enter the new exhaust average velocity

12. Enter the new average impulsion velocity measured in the same condition as points 8
and 9.

13. Entering the previous value the cabinet is adjusted to work at down flow velocity defined
in the set points. The display shows you the values of extraction flow, down flow, fan
voltage and inlet air velocity.

The only way we can change the inlet air velocity is through the extraction regulators
(see figures in point nº2). Opening, we increase the inlet air velocity and closing we
decreases de inlet air velocity.

IMPORTANT: IF WE CHANGE THE OPENING OF THE EXTRACTION REGULATOR,

WE WILL HAVE TO RECALIBRATE THE CABINET FROM THE POINT 5

14. If inlet air velocity is greater or equal than 0.55m/s, the cabinet is alright calibrated. If
the inlet air velocity is smaller than 0.55 m/s we need to increase the incoming air
speed, we will open the extraction regulator and recalibrate the cabinet from the point 5.

If the cabinet is alright calibrated we can switch off.

15. After calibrating the cabinet we have to check that it works correctly. Switch on the
cabinet (the front glass should be in the working position). Go to the technical service
menu where the fan voltage and air velocity appears. Wait at least 5 minutes.

16. Take 5 extraction air velocity values. The extraction average value of the 5 velocity
readings should be 0.55 ± display exhaust velocity.
V exhaust display ± 0.05 m/s = V average exhaust

17. Measure the impulsion air speed (take the values in the same points as calibration
mode). The average impulsion speed should be between 0.34 m/s and 0.36 m/s.

0.34≤Vaverage impulsion speed≤0.36

ACCEPTANCE CRITERIA

The cabinet is calibrated if it satisfy the permitted extraction speed and impulsion speed in
points 16 and 17.

If condition is not satisfied we proceed to calibrate the cabinet again from point 1.
