Genitically Modified Organism ( GMO )

Title

A genetically modified organism (GMO) is an organism whose genetic material has

been altered to contain a segment of DNA from another organism. Recombinant DNA
made from two different organism e.g. human gene and bacterial plasmid. The first
genetically modified organism was developed in 1973 by biochemists Herbert Boyer
and Stanley Cohen, who inserted DNA from one bacterium into another. Most scientists
agree that GM foods are "generaly safe."

First and foremost, GMOs are very nutritious. In many instances, improving
macronutrients (proteins, carbohydrates, lipids, fibre) and micronutrients (vitamins,
minerals, functional metabolites). Some genetically modified foods are designed to
enhance nutrition, quality, and style. For instance, the golden rice which is genetically
modified and rich in vitamin A. There are many uses of GMO's for examples;to make
plants resistant to disease, to make pigs with less fat - leaner meat, to make pigs, cows
or fish grow faster and lastly, higher production of milk by cows. Growing plants that are
more resistant to diseases spread by insects or viruses will likely result in higher yields
for farmers and a more attractive product. Farmers have achived higher income due to
the increased yield of GM corn and reduced use of pesticides. As a result of improved
yields and better-quality harvests, the Philippines has been able to export corn silage
since adopting GM corn.

From the beggining back then, crop products was always organic. Now that were in
modern world, GMO's have been injected genes from one species to another that could
be dangerous to people. From having all the vitamins of a single product could have a
great advantages, but our foods will not be an organic now.GMO crops are relatively
new, and researchers are still investigating their long-term safety and health effects, but
no evidence has yet emerged that currently available GMO foods are harmful to human
health, but what most people afraid or worry about is without having to agonize about
what the food they consume of.

There are hundreds of companies and people that are pro-GMO and believe that
genetically modified foods don't pose harm to us or the environment. While similar to
genetic engineering, gene editing technologies like CRISPR-Cas9 offer a more precise
and controlled way to modify genes. They can be used to make targeted changes
without introducing foreign genes, potentially addressing some ethical and
environmental concerns associated with traditional GMOs.

In conclusion, the benefits of genetic engineering in agriculture are increased of crop

yields, reduced costs for food or drug production, reduced need for pesticides,
enhanced nutrient composition and food quality, resistance to pests and disease,
greater food security, and medical benefits to the world's growing population. GMO is a
process by which pieces of DNA are transferred from one organism to another.
