Employment - intro

India has a huge working age population (15-64 yrs) of 900 million (est. 2020)
which is 67% of the population. This high Ratio of working to non-working
population place India in a Unique position in the world.

The Golden Period from 2030 to 2050 is a very important for India as our working
age population will further increase.

Info - Indian workforce has about 52 crore workers.


- PLFS - June 2022 -
- Labor force participation is 47.5%.
- Working population Ratio is 43.9%.
- Unemplyoment rate is 7.6%.

46% - workers employled in agriculture. (>51% agriculture and its allied


activities)

Challanges -
- majority of workforce is in un-organised sector.
- so they are devoid of social security and labor regulation.
- India has large unskilled workers - need of multi-skilling.
- Lack of availability of accurate data.
- Low participation of women workforce.
- Recession/Covid-19/declinig economy - increases the unemployment.

Measures -
- Formalization of workforce.
- providing social security
- providing good labor regulation - working condition & wage.
- Upskilling of workers.
- Increase the wormen participation.
- improve the Data collection - PLFS
