Agatha Christie (biography)

Introduction
Agatha Christie was born the 15th of September in 1890. She was one of the most well
known and talented women authors of all time. Her works are constantly being printed and
have been translated in hundreds of different languages. The writer of all types of texts such
as mystery novels, romance novels and even some plays. Having only created two
detectives (Jane Marple, Hercule Poirot) of her ninety-seven novels.

Childhood
She was born in Torquay, Devon in 1890, her parents were a British housewife and an
American stockbroker. Her family was wealthy, and her father was a gentleman of
substance. She didn’t have the opportunity to have a formal education, but she was raised
by her mother and sister. She read a lot of books as a child and became a very literate
person. All alone, she started reading at the young age of five.

In 1905, she went to Paris where she was educated at finishing schools;she was accepted
because this was a musical school for girls. At the start she wanted to be a singer but after
seeing that she was not talented. She started writing short novels but , as it was the First
World War, she was rejected by many publishers.

Family
In 1914, Agatha Christie met Archibald Christie, an aviator in the Royal Flying Corp. They
married a few months after the outbreak of war in December 1914. They had a child,
Rosalind, in August 1919.

After her husband left for war, she stayed as a nurse, helping wounded soldiers. She also
studied pharmacy.
Jane Marple
Jane Marple was one of Christie’s most loved detectives; her appearance was very
deceiving because she was an old lady that looked like your normal grandmother, but this
very trait was what made her able to slip through security and interrogate suspects. She also
used her knowledge of knitting, gardening, and gossip to blend right in.

Miss Marple, despite her old appearance, was witty and had an insatiable search for the
truth. As she went unraveling who the murder is, she normally is at the same time knitting a
cardigan.
Hercule Poirot
Unlike Jane Marple, Hercule Poirot is a famous private detective who has a very peculiar
mustache.Although these two detectives might be different in appearance, the way they
solve their cases. Instead of looking aimlessly for clues, they direct their attention to the
suspect's psychology behavior and human nature to weed out the culprit.

Awards
Agatha Christie is one of the greatest mystery writers of all time and even though she has
won only four awards, these have been the most prestigious awards. Some of them have
been her Edgar Grand Master Award, which is seen as the most important award for a
mystery novelist to win. On top of that, see also won Edgar award for best play, she did all of
this in 1955. In 2000, she won the Anthony award for best series of the century and best
writer of the century.

Conclusion
Before Agatha had written her first novel her sister had written some short stories and one
day her sister bet that Agatha could not write a compelling novel and surely not someone
would want to read. Well I think it’s safe to say that she won that bet and now that we speak
of Agatha Christie we're talking about a household name.
