Consider some of the common general barriers to listening.

Here a are four barriers and


some suggestions for dealing with them as both listener and speaker because they are
responsible fo ensuring effective listening.

Communication style. According to Crane (2019), everyone has their own unique
communication style at which people may outwardly expressive while other maintain a more
neutral tone. No matter your method of communication, always remain confident and try to
speak clearly and audibly. Provide example during explanation will be helpful to illustrate
your point.

Excessivetalking. People with good communication skills are view as important


asset to the org (Robertson, 2021). However, talking more than necessary is a barrier to
effective communication. People hesitate to interact with a person who talks much without
listening to them. You need to observe your listeners reactions while speaking so that you
can maintain effective discussion.

Prejudice as started by Yusof and Jamal (2021), it is referring to a preconceived


opinion of feeling which is usually irrational. Prejudice has the potential to bring hostility into
the team and can break the spirit among the team members. The reason for a prejudice
may come from the difference of race, religion, age or appearance. They will not make any
effort to listen and understand what you said.
