Within the United States of America comes with aligning oneself with a political party,
and with such a wide and diverse variety comes the trouble of choosing one that matches one's
moral and political beliefs. From the religious based and strict Republican party to the more
green, earth-based political party of the Green party, the variety is strong as each party has set
beliefs, actions, and goals. To choose, the way to decide which party to choose is to do research,
to think of one's own beliefs, and to find what party would match the most with set beliefs. To
specify, with the examples used before of both the Green party and the Republican party can
show just how similar and different two parties can be, and why it is so important to find these
differences to find the right match. Specifically, both the Green party and the Republican party
have very different beliefs on issues, and to create the comparison and contrast of both parties is
to breach the idea of how they would react when proposed the same issue, what their differences
in beliefs are, and what is the similarities that can be found in between the two parties.
To start off, dissecting the Green party and Republican party on their own stances and
beliefs, and the differences in between. The Green party was founded in 1990, they advocate for
grassroots democracy, social and economic justice, and nonviolence. The party is primarily
focused on green politics, mostly on global warming, but also advocates anti-racism, anti-war,
and eco-socialism; being depicted as left-wing. As for the Republican party being founded in
1854, being known for being right-winged, and has very heavy stances on many controversial

topics of being anti-abortion, pro-wall, pro-gun, and relies heavily on the rights of the
constitution. This can go against one another as the Green party is anti-war, which the
Republican party is pro-gun, which contradicts one another, as another comparison could be the
pro-abortion stance that the Green party takes while as said, the Republican party is
anti-abortion. With a major difference, the Green party leans on less religion than the Republican
party, which is seen with their ideologies and commented on by Chapter 9: Political Parties,
claiming, “religion can also be a factor in ideology,” (Lopez 9). Both with heavy differences can
cause debates between the two, as their differences make them not likely to agree on many bills
As for similarities, it can be found in the small, less controversial topics that the two
parties could agree on. The main, and only similarity relies on their stance of equal opportunity.
From their posts and past representatives of each party speaking on the topic, both are heavy on
equal opportunity for all. The Green party is big on it for equal rights and peace, while the
Republican party is big on it for more labor and more effective citizens within the communities
of the country. But it has been found that both of their ideologies line up for this one instance,
showing a semblance of understanding as both want the communities to thrive with education
In an instance of where a problem arose, and both would have to act in a similar fashion,
as mentioned of their shared ideology of equal opportunity, it can be found in their beliefs or
equal voting. If it came up to debate on whether or not the right for women, minorities, or others
to have the right to vote, both sides would agree that everyone who is a citizen of the United
States has the right to vote. It is within the constitution, therefore anyone who falls under the
The differences and similarities between the parties of the Green party and the
Republican party, it can be hard to find alliance with one, but it is important to look how two
different parties work to find a semblance of who to join for the betterment of oneself. After
looking at both sides, their ideologies, and their differences, it can be found that while both
different sides are vastly different, that once in a while, they can both share an agreement to
