Instructions
Use this tool in 3 steps:
Step 1: Input Producers & Select the optimal Location
Step 2: Input Species
Step 3: Derive functioning & self-sustaining food chain

*Note: Features marked are only available in the Premium Excel Solvers

Step 1. Input Producers & Select the optimal Location

Aim: Identify and select the optimal Starting Location & Producers based on calories produced to build the food chain.
1a) Navigate to the list of producers provided in the assessment.

1b) For every producer, input the following data points into the table provided in the tab Step1 - Producers & Location
i) Producer's name
ii) Calories Provided
iii) Depth/Elevation Range (min / max)
iv) Temperature Range (min / max)
Note: All other data points are just noise and a distraction
1c) Identify the Temperature & Depth/Elevation conditions which have the best starting calories to build the food chain.
=> Select Location with Temperature & Depth/Elevation conditions within these ranges.

Click around on Location Selection screen until you find a place with conditions in the optimal starting range.

Step 2. Input Species

Aim: The aim of this step can be split into 2:
a) Filter all species for the chosen set of Temperature & Depth/Elevation conditions
b) Input food sources into the species matrix

2a) Within the 'Species' tab you will be given a list for all the animal species.
Look at at the Temperature & Depth/Elevation living condition ranges for all the species and from now on only consider t
2b) After identifying all the species that can survive in our chosen location, you must input them into the species matrix.
The species matrix helps understand available food sources for each species and the respective data points on Calories Pr

Exa

Step 3: Generate Food chain

With the species data organized you can now start building your food chain.
Remember to consider Calories Needed & Calories Provided for each species to build a sustaining food chain.
(This is the hardest part of the assessment)

ALTERNATIVE

Step 3: Auto-generate Food Chain

Let the Excel Solver handle all the heavy lifting and just get the optimal food chain.
By this stage you would have provided all the necessary inputs for our automated Excel Solver
Check the automatically calculated optimal ecosystem and food chain in the Step 3 tab.
Check the provided solution that all dietary requirements are met (Food sources, Calories Provided & Calories Needed)
Just copy the results and click submit on the McKinsey PSG Ecosystem Game.
You will score maximum points and impress recruiters with your performance.

It is of course still possible to complete the Ecosystem Building Game on your own using the Free Template provided.
However, this will take extra time, and you want to maximize your chance of success using a Solver to auto-complete
the food chain for you and leave as much time as possible for Part 2 of the PSG, the Redrock Study game.

The fact you have read to end of the instructions here means you're ambitious and serious about landing that job
at McKinsey. It's a competitive process and to achieve your ambitions, take every advantage that you can.
We at PSG Cracked love to support ambitious future consultants and because we now know you're serious,
we want to offer you an exclusive *secret* discount to our range of Solvers and give you that advantage.
