Question 3
Engineering ethics is the field that examines and sets the obligations by engineers to society, to their
clients and to the profession.
(a) All professional engineers in Malaysia must registered with Board of Engineers Malaysia (BEM)
and pass the examinations conducted by Institution of Engineers Malaysia (IEM). Explain the
roles of IEM and BEM.

(b) “For engineers, engineering ethics is not a topic separate from engineering, it is part of the
essence of engineering as it pertains to the professional responsibilities that the engineer has
with society.” Whitbeck, Caroline. (1995).
i. Define Environmental Ethics. (6 marks)
ii. Define Computer Ethics. (3 marks)
(c) In this era, computer security is a topic of concern in the field of Computer Ethics. The problem
is not so much the physical security but rather "logical security" which Spafford, Heaphy and
Ferbrache divide into five aspects. List all of them.

(d) One of the key areas of computer ethics is "Unauthorized access". students are to suggest
example of wrongdoing and way to overcome them.
