A BRIEF SPEECH ON POULTRY FARMING

The term poultry farming refer s to a farm on which domesticated

birds such as chickens, Ducks and turkey are reared to produce meat and
egg for food.
It requires small capital investment and provides additional income
and job opportunities to a large number of people in the shortest possible
time.
Besides improving the nutritional value of the people diets, it also
generate rich manure of chemical fertilizer.
In poultry farming, chickens are mostly farmed in great numbers.
We have the broilers, the cockrails, the noilers and the layers.
The broilers, cockrails and noilers are mostly reared for meat, while the
layers are reared for eggs.
Moreover, before starting a poultry farm, one has to take the following
steps into consideration
 Firstly, choosing the type of poultry birds to rear.
 Secondly; selecting a suitable farm location or site.
 Thirdly; providing a good Housing and shatter for the birds.
 Fourthly; to provide feeding and medication for the poultry birds
 And ensuring the marketing and sales of the poultry birds and egg.

However, it is important to know some of the challenges that a

poultry farmer can face, some of which are;
 Disease and pest attack.
 Lack of loan and credit procurement.
 Lack of technical knowledge.
 High rate of mortality.
 High cost of poultry feed
 Supply of poor quality chicks.
 And inadequate access to and high cost of veterinary services.

Above all, remember that poultry meat and eggs provides the
humans body with a range of nutrient and vitamins. And as a
poultry farmer, you can become an employer of labour, thereby
reducing the rate of unemployment in our country.
