Example: Flawed Consequences Need Help?

Before we get into Fail-Proof Consequences, let’s take a look at an example of a Flawed
Consequence. We call these consequences “flawed” because they’re not fail-proof – your child
ultimately controls them through his or her behavior. Again, without physical force, you cannot
control your child’s behavior.
If you chose Child and/or No in the two columns above, the consequence is flawed and will
likely lead to inconsistency when your emotion buttons are pushed. Choose another
consequence.

Next, we’ll look at some examples of Fail-Proof Consequences we’ve heard work for some ODD
or CD kids. Notice how in each of them, the ultimate control rests with the parent.
