The Oh Hellos – Notos

There's an eerie quiet On the southern levees

With a halcyon sky and

Atmosphere gone heavy

Because there's a wind arising with the ire of Venus

Tugging at the surface of the seas between us

And it's catalyzing with a breath of calefaction

A thunderous disturbance, and for every action, a reaction

And the rush will take you away

Like you're caught in the undertow

And you will drown in the wake

Of the things you lost to the winds of Notos

But the water's rising (quicker than light and sound)

From the seas within me (coming up from the ground)

And I try to fight it (cumulonimbus clouds)

But I drain completely (cover the sun and drown it out)

Every inhale I take, swallows the ocean whole, and I am one

With the hurricane, tall as the tide that laps with a rabid tongue

With every exhale

I break you down with a fury, I lay the hills Undone

Like a dog gone untamed, bellowing out a river from my lungs

And the rush will take you away

Like you're caught in the undertow

And you will drown in the wake

Of the things you said that you can't take back, no

And every word you shouldn't say

Will come bubbling out of your throat

But you've got no one left to blame

For the things you lost to the winds of Notos

You gotta let go

The Oh Hellos – Eurus
Spinning that stone uphill again

Like atonement for a bygone sin

Under the weight of it, my bones

Cracking like a dry branch in a westward wind

But Zeus and his pantheon of kin

Take the first nine out of every ten

Minas, like lightning changing hands

It all returns back to his pockets, in the end

You can't take any gold or rings further than the grave

Nothing we make can we bring

But still the bait hanging from the string is calling my name

And like the wind it slips again

Out of my fingers

As Fortuna sits idly by

I spin her wheel with all my might

Crushing my kin for warring-wage

Minted from the ivory of your tooth and eye

Under the table where she dines

I sit hungry with my mouth foamed white

Fighting for crumbs that trickle down

As she finishes her cake, then takes a bite from mine

You can't take any gold or rings further than the grave

Nothing we make can we bring

But still the bait hanging from the string is calling my name

And like the wind it slips again

Out of my fingers
The Oh Hellos – Boreas
With my back on the floor

Cold linoleum icing my growing pains

Watch the ceiling fan turn its shape again

My threads are coming loose

Yeah, I'm one spoon away

From setting the ends of my hair on fire

If I'm kindling for a little while

At least I'd feel of use

Maybe then my breath could embody

A wildfire starting

I'd sweep up the forest floor

And my body'd breathe life into the corners

Be a darker soil

Making lists, folding laundry

Keeping tidy with my radio show

I'd be lying if I told you

I'm keeping tidy anymore

Yeah, I swing from believing

That maybe my working will all pay off

To considering drinking with Molotov

I'm halfway out the door

Maybe then my breath could embody

A wildfire starting

I'd sweep up the forest floor

And my body'd breathe life into the corners

Be a darker soil

Promise me

That you'll start where I end

And I promise to give you

Everything that I am
(On and on and on)

We'll go on and on and on

In the end

All I hope for

Is to be a bit of warmth for you

When there's not a lot of warmth left

To go Around
The Oh Hellos – Zephyrus
What do you find within the lines of distant suns

And their systems, where I come up empty?

What if those painted songs of heroes or the moon?

Herculean, pulling a half of me?

Are we not threaded by the same weave of the wind?

Terra firma and unparted sea?

Whether by accident or fortune, you and I

We are matter and it matters

I want to spin something out of nothing

Lead to gold, spring from winter

Story from moted sky

I wanna help mother up an orchard

From a seed up through sapling

Daughter phoenix, rise

The way they encourage one another

To push high and touch the sunlight

Against their tender leaves

They'll be full-grown before you know it

And as I breathe, so does she

We are breathing

So let me meltdown like mountain glaciers

Break the bonds I've been holding onto

Let 'em soften me 'til every part that I am made of

Waters deep to the roots of something greener
