Research Title: Insectiticidal effect of Citrus Limon (Lemon Fruit) extract on Trichodectes Canis
(Dog Chewing Lies)

Rationale:

This study was conducted to determine the insecticidal effect of Citrus limon
(lemon fruit) on Trichodectes canis (dog chewing lice). The objective of this study was to
determine the effect of different concentration of Lemon Fruit against the target
subjects which are the adults Trichodectes canis. There were different concentrations of
Lemon Fruit extract (50% and 100%) and control groups (commercialized dog lice
shampoo and water) were administered for the insecticidal property by determining the
significant difference. The Lemon fruits were bought fresh from Food Trader located in
Carbon Market near Plaza Independencia, Cebu City and the dog lice are manually
collected by either plucked using a tweezer or swept by a hair brush for dogs. In three
trials, there were 24 adults dog lice per experimental and control group. The adult dog
lice were treated and left for two hours.

After three trials with two-hour interval, the researchers found that among
the four-treatment group, 100% lemon extract concentration and commercial dog flea
(100%) were the highest percent mortality, followed by the 50% lemon extract
concentration with 33.33 percent mortality, and water (16.7%) had the least percent
mortality. Furthermore, Chi Square z test revealed that there was no significant
difference in the percent mortality between 50% lemon extract concentration and water
at 0.05 level of significance, x²(1)=1.778, p = 0.182.

The researchers found out that 100% lemon extract concentration has
insecticidal effects on Trichodectes canis. Future researchers may use this study as
reference. They can use Soxhlet apparatus for the extraction to provide a crude extract.
And lastly, the researchers would like to propose an examination of the phytochemical
components of the plant to find its other potentials for the betterment of the field of
Herbal Medicine.
