h. "The SPARK study is a national study sponsored by the Simons Foundation, seeking to find genes
associated with autism, via whole exome sequencing. The purpose of the study is to understand genetic
subtypes of autism in an effort to
improve treatments in the future. To date, over 35,000 families across the country have participated.
UCSD is one site in the study, so local families can be linked to a local research coordinator after
registering. This is a saliva sample study for
children and their parents, and the entire study can be completed on-line from home. A $50 gift card is
given for your participation. SPARK results, if positive, are reported within a year, but the sample will be
held and re-tested for many years, even if they don't find anything at first, since knowledge is constantly
expanding. For more information: https://sparkforautism.org//UCSD,SARRC or
speak to the research coordinator at 858-534-6906."
