Scene 1
Act 1 - 20K generation
Conversation between family members @ Home
Children are busy on their phones.
Father returns home from work, asks to fetch water, children are engrossed
in watching something in mobiles.
Father asks children how their day was at school.
Children didn’t bother to answer.
He repeatedly asks children, they tell him not to disturb them as they were
busy sharing their outing experience with their friends through chatting.

Sreya: (Brings water for father) Children, I need 5 mts of your time please.

Pragnya: Yes mom, plzz hurry up, v can’t spare more time, you know that we
need to watch a match on TV.

Sreya:Your grandparents are arriving this weekend, planning to have a get

together.

Tejas(groaning) : Make a Video call when they arrive mom, I've planned the
weekend with my friends.
Ishaan: Let's have dinner together this weekend and spend some time with your
grandparents. After all, they are coming down after a decade, we need to make
them feel welcomed.

Tejas: Dinner dad, no way.Let's add them on WhatsApp and extend a warm
welcome, then chat when we have some free time.
Father and mother look at each other with some dissatisfaction.

Sreya: I'm tired now, would you guys help me in cooking?

Pragnya: y to cook mom, u order food on zomato. I've my own plans.

Sreya:(angrily) There seems to be a lack of attention, helpful nature ,

appreciation and time dedicated to parents. The family bond is poorly
maintained, and it's unclear why the younger generation is behaving this way.

Children (look at each other)

Pragnya: Why does mom get upset for trivial matters, and what might be wrong
with our actions?
Tejas:I have no clue either, I’m contemplating the same thing.
Scene 1: Act -2 At school

Children standing in groups in the corridor, teachers would be moving to the classroom
in the corridor, no one bothers to leave the way to teachers.. Two children would be
quarrelling with each other and oblivious to the teacher’s arrival.

In the classroom, children are chattering in a noisy way.

Shreyas : Have U done the given activity?
The topic of Nature and its influence on humans, we need to draw the picture of
nature and write a few sentences about it.

Mrinal: Writing? no yaar, who writes so much, I just copied from Google, took a
printout and pasted. That's it.

Keerthi: Me too the same

Hassini: Hey u applied nail polish?

Ma'am insisted not to

Keerthi: This Emma ma'am na, too much yaar, she always insists us not to apply
nail polish , no stylish hair styles and all.

Hassini: (Sarcastically)Really bro, why all the teachers are like this, even
hairstyles, way of dressing is also decided by them, we can't leave hair freely,
wear skinny dresses to school and all I don't like all these rules bro.

Shreyas: And you know two days back I dashed Madam Shelly by mistake and
couldn't apologise, she personally called me and told me to have respect towards
elders, so disgusting.

Teacher enters the class

Few children wish and few are busily engrossed

Hasini comes and complains

Ma'am no one is listening to me, all are acting on their own

Madam Deepthi; Students, good morning all, hope you all had an enjoyable
weekend .Answer the attendance now.
Abhi
Pragnya- absent ma'am, he went to film last night and informed that he can't
attend the school.
Arpitha - yes ma'am
Keerthi - I'm here ma'am.
Shreyas
Hasini
Shreyas comes late to the school.
Deepthi: y are you late to the school.

Shreyas (carelessly) : Ma'am, I watched a movie till midnight and woke up late
today .

Deepthi: Watching films till midnight isn't gud for students. Don't ever repeat this .
Come in and take your seat.
Shreyas comes in and takes the chair.
Deepthi : i mean to sit in your place.

Pragnya - Ma'am, I have a doubt. , if teachers are absent, substitute teachers are
sent, y don't we students have that facility.

Deepthi: Then even your marks will be substituted. Stop being oversmart.

Pl maintain discipline and tell me whether all have done the activity and
homework those were assigned last weekend.
Mrinal : Ma'am I went to the Mall yesterday, didn't do the homework.

Shreyas: Ma'am, my father is out of town, couldn't use chatgpt.

Keerthi: I too didn't do ma'am, forgot. And do you know ma'am, Mrinal had eaten
his homework page, so funny.

Madam Deepthi: He had eaten the page, but why?

Mrinal: Ma'am, Hasini told that our homework was a piece of cake, that's y
ma'am.

Arpitha: Bro, piece of cake means very easy to do,it's an idiom, it doesn't literally
mean to eat,

All the children laugh

Keerthi: Ma'am, u apply Kajol so beautifully, is it Icon Kajal?

Monika : ma'am, do u order dresses from Flipkart or Ajio, I love your dresses.

Madam Deepthi: Stop it children, don't divert the topic and focus on your studies
rather than unwanted things.

Children scream and bang the benches

What did we discuss in our last class?

Shreyas (thinking): Last class? You were discussing about H, I, J, K, L;M, N, O
Mrinal : Bro, are we in Kindergarten or in class 7
Pragnya : Maam we discussed about the chemical formula of water, that is H ,
the number 2 and 0 .

Madam Deepthi: Gud,it's H20, not H, i, j, k, l, m, n o, that's y you should be

attentive in the class while teaching.
Teacher turns towards the blackboard. Children starts chattering.

Maintain discipline and explain the chemical formula of water.

Children again will be laughing amongst themselves

Shreyas: Ma’am I browsed google about the topic ma’am, Few things were
different from what we discussed in class.

Madam Deepthi: Dear children, consider using encyclopaedias, dictionaries and

good books for your activities and projects instead of being online all the time.

Pragnya : (sighing heavily) Ma’am it takes a very long time for those. Like you,
even my dad insists on reading books, referring to articles, and avoiding internet
addiction to gather information.

Shreyas: While the internet offers abundant information, why do we need hard
work and invest time in traditional sources? I prefer tasks that conclude quickly,
allowing more time for playing video games.

Mrinal: Ma'am, reading books seems tedious and time-consuming for me.

Madam Deepthi: Completing the tasks with patience today will yield positive
results in the future. These efforts prepare you to tackle future challenges with
resilience, so prioritise your homework and assignments
Monika: : Ma’am, I don’t understand why all your elders don’t allow us to use
technology in a full fledged way. Even my mom constantly wants me to play
outdoors, and keeps on insisting not to play games on my mobile.

Pragnya: I prefer staying indoors and getting engrossed with my mobile. I don’t
like this insistence.

All the girls together- we too don't like this insistence.

Madam Deepthi: The wisdom shared by your elders is rooted in experience and
practicality. It’s essential not to dismiss their advice but instead follow it, as
these insights play a crucial role in shaping your future.

Madam Deepthi : Shreyas, Every time I check your facebook,, your last seen is 2
or 4 mts ago, and whatsapp it’s 8 mts ago what about your textbooks last seen?

Keerthi: May be 8 months ago ma’am.

(All the children laugh)

Madam Deepthi: It's time to pull up your socks and concentrate on your studies
rather than unwanted things to score good marks in your examination.

Mrinal will pull up his socks

Arpitha: It means to work hard bro, stop pulling up your socks literally.
it's was an idiom that ma'am taught us in our last class.

Mrinal and Arpitha start fighting.

Madam Deepthi: Children, do consider adjusting your lifestyle priorities. Your

values and respect towards elders are significantly lacking, which could lead to
negative consequences in your future. Be cautious and adjust your behaviour
accordingly.

Pragnya- I don't grasp why teachers consistently lecture us about our behavior
and discipline.

Arpitha- It's better to follow ma'am s advice before we miss the boat.

Pragnya- You are as right as rain.

Bell rings and most of children leave the class with a sort of confusion and
dissatisfaction questioning what’s wrong with their activities.

On The Weekend , Grandparents arrive.

Pragnya: Hey bro, I got a text message from grandpa insisting us to gather for
the family time, have You too got the message?

Tejas : S sis, we have no option but to attend the meeting, as Dad made it clear
that skipping it means losing internet access permanently and forfeiting pocket
money.

Come, let's sacrifice an hour of time and attend the meeting,no choice

At the Family gathering, grandparents, parents would be relaxing with some old
memories.
Children enter the room.

Suchethan: PUt the gadgets down dear children, we’re having a family meeting,

Tejas: Grandpa, we could have conducted this meeting through a video call to
save time.

Aayesha: No, we are doing it in an old fashioned way, face to face.I’m confident
you’ll appreciate it even more than a video call, as we have some significant and
valuable information to share with you.

Tejas: Grandpa, you also began discussing these things now. Just this afternoon,
you mentioned that we’re good friends, and I genuinely appreciate how you
embrace technology. However, if you also start lecturing us, it becomes as dry
as dust.
Pragnya : Both at home, with mom and dad, and at school, our teachers keep
emphasising reduced mobile usage, but we’re entirely clear on why we should
reduce using technology when it’s accessible.

Grandpa: I reached out not to lecture but to share something often overlooked by
your generation - the intricate connection within our family and the enjoyable, yet
informative, schooling experiences of your parents that contribute to a vibrant
tapestry.

Tejas (excitedly) our parents’ family bondage and schooling,I'm at the edge of my
seat, please carry on grandpa
Look What I brought for you, a box full of memories. Letters, old toys and photos.
Tejas : Seems that our parents have a beautiful bondage with you both and
wonderful school days. It looks like a closely knit family… carry on

and are shown
eating and talking with each other
.
Sridhar: You know dad, we went to a historical museum. It had variety of things to
display from
ancient civilization. We were so amazed to see their tools and art crafts.
Prathiksha: Did you all notice their use of stone and wood in ancient times?

Sridhar: Oh! Definitely mumma. I was also thrilled to know a lot about our
freedom fighters. There
were great statues and belonging to significant personalities.

There was also a small park outside the main building of the museum. When we were
playing
There, my friend and I noticed an old man sitting very sadly. I could not control asking
him the
reason and he said that he could not find any work for the day hence he was not able to
buy
food for himself.
It was, so sad to see an old man starving! Dad. So my friend and I both shared our food
with
him, mumma! He looked so happy after eating the rice that you had prepared so
lovingly.
Ishaan: We are so proud of you my son for this act of kindness.
Prathiksha: Come on children, go and sleep, You need to get up early morning and hit
the books as your exams are approaching.

homework assigned by all subject teachers on Friday.
(Students raising their hands)
Tanmayee: I did the homework ma’am
Jyoshika: Ma'am, I couldn't do the homework. I'm sorry.

Bhavana: This is the last warning to you, next time if you are not up to the mark
in completing your tasks you will be punished.

Jyoshika:sure ma'am, I'm sorry again.

Gowrav:Ma'am, I found the reading assignment intriguing. Gathering new

vocabulary and jotting it down in my book has been rewarding, and using those
words in my sentences boosts my confidence and fills me with pride.

Bhavana: (smiles) Good to hear! Students, Share your thoughts on the book
report.

Gowrav: I loved reading. I even used my gel pens for the title page.

Bha: Hereafter, be punctual, otherwise you won't be allowed inside the

classroom.

Mohitha: Sure ma'am, i don't repeat this again.

Bhavana: Now let’s talk about the maths problem.

Srinand: (raising hands) I finished the maths problem, and even double-checked
my answers!
Bhavana: (smiles)
That’s excellent, I appreciate your dedication. Did you face any challenges?
Mohitha: (nods)
I struggled a bit with the long division but I asked my dad for help, we worked
through it together.
Teacher: (applauding)

That’s the spirit, seeking help when needed is important. It’s about the process of
learning. Now,
about the science experiment notes?

Gowrav: (Showing a handwritten sheet)

I did that! We tried Vinegar and baking soda experiment at home. It was so cool
to see bubbles!
Bhavana: (impressed)
Fantastic, Hands-on experiences make learning memorable. Keep up the
curiosity.
What was our last class discussion about?

Mohitha: we were discussing about idioms ma'am.

Bha: Ok students, give me few real life examples for those

Yashi: Ma'am, When pigs fly, i come late to school.

Bha: That's gud, it means that u never come late to school, keep it up.
Bha:

Yashi: seeks help

Mohitha: tries to help her

Srinand: ma'am I know the answer, it's Venus

Bha: correct.

Srinand: Ma'am I refer to encyclopaedias and dictionaries most of the time and
even my father tells me many new things. I even help my young brother with his
homework.

Bha: How many of you prefer spending time with your family members in your
free time.

Gowrav: Ma'am, I watch a few programs on television merely to gather

information about my studies. Rest of the time I prefer spending time with my
family. My mother teaches me how to live respectfully in society without hurting
others and my father teaches me how to face problems without giving up.

Bha: I take pride in all of you, and I am optimistic that our country possesses
citizens who embrace strong family and educational values.

Students: Thank you ma'am

(That’s brilliant; learning from family experiences adds depth to your

understanding. I appreciate
your effort and engagement with the assignment and

Umra:
Wow, That great, it's an awesome experience to see both parents and teachers
feeling proud of their children. I think it's time to shift our lifestyles and allocate
time to strengthen family bonds.

Pallavi:
Message: What I understood is that family bondage transcends time. We need
to embrace our traditions and technology equally and create new memories and
pass on love and respect through generations. Respecting our elders, seeking
their advice, helps us calmly navigate challenges, reflecting the roots of our
culture.
