The Cookie Thief

A woman had to spend hours at the airport, waiting for her delayed flight to London. She bought a
book and a bag of cookies in the airport shops and found a place to sit down next to an old Chinese
man.
She started reading and her book was really exciting. Suddenly, she noticed that the Chinese man,
who was sitting beside her, took a cookie from the bag in between. She was surprised, but she
didn’t say anything because she didn’t want to make a scene.
She also took a cookie and munched it. But then she couldn’t believe her eyes: the cheeky Chinese
man took another cookie from the bag! And another one! She was getting more and more angry,
thinking, ‘If I wasn’t so nice, I would hit him.’
With each cookie she took, the Chinaman took one too, and when only one cookie was left, she
wondered what he would do. With a smile on his face, and a nervous laugh, he took the last cookie
and broke it in half. He offered her half, as he ate the other.
The irritated woman jumped up and gathered her book and her handbag. Luckily, her flight was
called, so she headed straight to the gate filled with anger. She didn’t even look back.
She boarded the plane, and sank in her seat, then she looked for her book, which was almost
complete. As she reached in her handbag, she gasped with surprise, because there was her bag of
cookies, in front of her eyes.
