a) Commercial AHU (Unitary Unit)

Dr. Mohamed Elhelw Faculty of Engineering – Alexandria University

Advantages:
1.Outside air is introduced and mixed with return air is done at machine room.
2.Humidification process can be executed at machine room with all-air system.
3.All maintenance work is done at machine room.
4.Condensate resulting from dehumidification is executed only at machine room.

Disadvantages:
1.Duct networks occupy respectable volume as well as zones heights. Also, in most
applications duct network needs to hide above false ceilings. Skelton ( beams and columns
) of building may cause obstacles for networks.
2.Individual zone control is carried out via additional terminal equipment otherwise zones
may be subjected to different temperatures according to part load of each one.
3.Small range of cooling capacity.

Advantages:
1.Unlimited range of cooling and heating capacity.
2.Individual zone temperature control is carried out at each zone as well as
variation of supply air for each FCU.
3.Piping networks occupy small volume.

Disadvantages:
1.Outside air can not be introduced.
2.Humidification process can not be executed.
3.Some maintenance works are done at zones.
4.Condensate water resulting from dehumidification of FCU’s are executed at
each zone.
