Professional Accountability Reflection

For this assignment I reviewed my social media platform of Instagram and Facebook. To describe

my activities on these platforms, my feeds appear to align with my personal values of empathy,

compassion, dedication and devotion to helping others. Evaluating my postings and interactions on my

social media feed validates my values that are required of me in my professional Nursing career which

includes demonstrating integrity, accountability, respect, and diversity all across my social media

platforms. Most importantly I demonstrate thoughtfulness and consideration for human value which

include reflecting Christian values of love, respect and compassion.

My activities on social media appear to reflect my personal and professional values of my

discipline as my postings substantiates commitment in helping others. Across all of my social media

platforms, I share stories of healthy diets, wholesome foods, travel and nature. I also believe that my

posting on these platforms correspond with my professional values in nursing as promote health and

wellness to my audience. These postings also create awareness in health-related issues and encourage my

followers to reciprocate and re-post doing similar acts. Doing so my social media followers validate that

my posting certainly aligns with my personal and professional values that also creates drive and

resourcefulness for others.

My family, friends and colleagues definitely support and admire my posts, conversations and

images that I share and post across all of my platforms. At times, the tone of conversations, content

shared, and offline behaviors could also influence how people perceive authenticity. People at times may

believe that social media provides an accurate representation of someone’s life and personality, while

others may be more skeptical, recognizing that online personas can be curated and may not reflect the full

complexity of an individual's identity (Geraghty, 2021). As far as for me, these posts represent me for

who I am, and the content that is post along with the conversations I carry and represent myself as is as

authentic as it can be.

The activity on my social media respects the human value and dignity of other as reflected in

Christian values. I am conscientious of the images and messages that I post on social media and always

make sure that what I am posting is not offensive or disrespectful to others. For example, even if I am at a

social event where not everyone follows Christian values, I make sure to not record or post activities that

would go against my values. I question myself where or not will my content connect with my followers in

a respectful way before I post or share anything.

I personally believe that nurses or any other professional career personnel have a responsibility to

uphold a standard of conduct consistent with its professional values, regulatory requirements, and its

workplace policies in both their personal and professional interactions inside and outside their jobs

including what they post on their social media platforms. Regarding nursing personnel, unprofessional

and inappropriate online behavior could potentially damage the reputation of the nursing profession and

destroy public trust. The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) of 1996 is the

most important aspect of our careers as it is crucial to follow these guidelines implemented

(EveryNurseStaff, 2023). An example would be if a nurse shared an x-ray picture on his/her social media

story to show their followers what they do at work would be an act of disclosing patient information on

social media without patient consent and this is considered a serious violation of HIPAA and could have

serious consequences for the nurse doing so.
