Adobe® Reader
The MCP electronic document requires the Adobe® Reader Search program. The Adobe® Reader
program is provided on the MCP CD-ROM.

Installing and starting the MCP

This guide includes directions to the MCP on a single-user computer. The installation does not
install the ACI documents to the local hard drive, requiring the CD to be in the computer when the
program is used. To install the MCP on a hard drive or on a multi-user network environment, please
contact technical support.

Installing
To install the MCP, the MCP disk must be in the CD-ROM drive on your system. Exit any other
currently active programs. Select Start, then Run. Type the drive letter (e.g., E:) where the MCP
disc is located, followed by \setup.exe. Follow the instructions on the screen.

Starting
• Make sure you have successfully installed the program. See the previous section
for installation instructions.
• Place the MCP CD in your CD-ROM drive.
• Select Start, then Programs, and ACI. Double click on MCP 2005 to start the MCP.
The MCP program will appear and the Main Menu will appear.

How to use the MCP

With the CD version of the Manual of Concrete Practice, you can quickly find the documents you
need. You can search for specific or general terms, find cross-references for building codes, and
print both data and images. Your computer does the work of finding the data you need, allowing
you to spend your time doing your job.

Online help
To access the help file for Adobe® Reader, click on the help menu at the top of the screen and select
Adobe® Reader Help. The MCP contains an electronic copy of this manual on the CD as well. To
access the manual: from the Main Menu, click the Help button at the bottom of the window.

Searching the MCP database

You can reach the search screen by choosing Search from the Main Menu, or by clicking on the
Search button on the toolbar of Adobe® Reader.
The Search window enables you to search the entire MCP database. By default, your search will be
a full text search of all the documents in the MCP. You can also search by Title, Author, or Keyword
by typing your search terms into the appropriate boxes in the advanced search options. The
advanced search options can be activated by clicking on the Use Advanced Search Options link at
the bottom of the search screen. There are numerous search methods available in the Adobe®
Reader—these are described in detail in the Adobe® Reader Help.
When you select a document from the search results, that document will open to the page with the
first occurrence of the search word in it. The search word will appear as highlighted text in the
document. Pressing the F3 key will move the cursor to the next occurrence of the search word.

Navigating within documents

Following is a list of basic Adobe® Reader navigation tools to get you started. A complete guide to
using Adobe® Reader is installed with the Adobe® Reader program.
Bookmarks
When you select a document from the MCP Library, the document will open in Adobe® Reader.
As a default, the document will appear in Single Page view with bookmarks.
Bookmarks for the document will be listed on the LEFT SIDE of the screen, and the pages/text of
the document will be listed on the RIGHT SIDE.

Selecting a bookmark in the left screen will advance the text in the right screen to the specified
chapter or subsection of the open document. For example, if you select the CHAPTER 1
bookmark, you will be taken to the beginning of Chapter 1 of the current document. You will notice
that the first entry in each set of bookmarks is MAIN MENU; clicking on this will return you to the
MCP main menu screen that appears when you first start the MCP.
Links
You will notice as you move through the documents that some of the text appears in RED on your
screen. These red highlighted words are called LINKS—clicking on one of these links with your
mouse will advance the text to whatever item or section of the document the link refers.

or Press the Right Arrow key
