Writing assessment task

Formal email to a program coordinator

You are a student at university in an academic program.

Write an email to your program coordinator Catherine Fehr. Explain why you have been absent for
the last few days (you need to mention a very good reason for your absence). Request two more
weeks off. Ask Catherine for advice about the best way to continue your studies during the time
you will be absent. Inquire about the possibility of receiving an extension for the assignments that
are due in the next two weeks.

Subject:

Hello, Ms. Fehr.

I hope this email finds you well. I’m writing to apologize for being absent the last few days.

Suddenly, I have to travel to my home country to support my family in a difficult moment for us,
sadly my grandmother passed away yesterday night. For this reason, I won’t be able to return to
Canada until the first week of October.

I’m fully aware about the importance of the first weeks of the program and I would like to ask you
which is the best way to continue my studies during the time I will be absent. Also I was wondering
if it’s possible to receive an extension for my assignments until I come back to Canada. I’m willing
to do everything in my hands in order to compensate all my absences.

Thank you in advance for taking the time to read my email and for your understanding in this mat-
ter. I look forward to hearing from you.

Warmly,
Nora Sanchez.
