TRIBUTE IN HONOR OF OUR DEAR GRANDMA

I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now
there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous
Judge, will award to me on that day—and not only to me, but also to all who have
longed for his appearing. 2 Timothy 4 :7-8
“God looked around his garden and found an empty space, then he looked down
upon earth and saw your tired but beautiful face. Then he put his arms around
you and lifted you to rest.”
Today, we are very sad as your Grandchildren to bid you farewell. Hmmmm...... where
do we start from and how do we even end? Oh Grandma, why leave us suddenly? Till
today your sudden departure is like a nightmare to us. A nightmare we want to quickly
wake up from. They say you can see someone just now and the next moment they just
disappear. These are sayings we usually took for granted because we never actually
understood it until it happened to us. We never imagined seeing you and within the next
moment you are gone forever to be with the Lord. Your news shocked us to the core
because we were told you were getting better, full of life and joy. Little did we know that
you would leave us so soon. I remember when daddy called to tell me to keep praying
for you and then the next moment the news of your passing. What? I groaned within me
in grief. It was so obvious at work and people kept asking if I was fine. All I could say to
myself was that "it is well"
When we remember your promise to stay with us till we all get married and give you
many grandchildren: Grandma we had just started the journey oo so why did you decide
to leave. We remember how whenever we came around you assured us that you were
not leaving anytime soon. You told us Grandpa wanted to leave early but you are going
to stay with us for a very long time. Everyone who knew grandma knew she was "the life
of the party". I think that's how come she earned the nickname "life girl" Able to bring
light everywhere she found herself. There was magic in grandma's touch, and sunshine
in her smile. There was love in everything she did to make our lives worthwhile. She
always had a positive vibe and made certain that everyone around was happy. There
was a day we visited Grandma's church and the way the congregation gave her fans,I
remember telling one of my siblings that “Ei grandma has fans oo and we laughed. You
could see that her natural loving and caring personality wasn’t only towards her family
but was demonstrated everywhere else.
Grandma was always asking about us and showing concern in asking about our
education, and where we had gotten to at every stage in our lives. Grandma was a
tough woman, so strong and determined to lend a helping hand in showing us the way.
So much so we grew up thinking that wow everyone must have a grandmother like you.
But there are grandmothers and there are grandmothers. You were one of a kind!
You were so warm and caring and you brightened up each day with your generous
nature in your kind and thoughtful way. Life today is not the same now that we’re apart,
but we always feel so close to you through the love that’s in our hearts.
Grandma you were always there for and with us, even in your old age you would travel
with grandpa all the way to Akosombo for our dedication and naming ceremonies. I
remember you had wanted to join dad and mum to Cape Coast to attend my graduation,
but for the distance you stayed home. You had been patient and kind with me even
when mummy was at her wits end with me. I remember you calling out to me from the
hall, “Ewura wedidi? Ewura didi ma me!” I used to think, grandma wants to make me fat
but I have come to realize it was one of the many ways you showed you cared. Your life
was full of loving deeds, forever thoughtful of our special needs.
Grandma your labor, sacrifices, love, advice, and the support you gave to our parents
was unmatched. We heard stories of how you trained our parents and today we are
benefiting from your hard work and investment.
Our vacations had always been days we looked forward to because we get to leave
Akosombo and spend some quality time with our special grandma. When we visit, you
always ensured that we were pampered, entertained, and fed with your sumptuous
meals. Now that you are gone, we think about how our vacations would be like. Our
hearts are so heavy. We will miss you so much. We miss your voice, laughter and
presence. However, we take consolation in the fact that you were a devout follower of
Christ hence you are resting in the bosom of the Lord God Almighty.
In paying tribute to you, grandma, we sincerely wish to praise the name of the Lord our
God for the wonderful woman you truly were. We will remember you always and your
memory will bring refreshment to our hearts and strengthen us in times of trouble.
Today we agree with the Psalmist and say indeed “ my soul is weary with sorrow;
strengthen me according to your word” Psalm 119:28
From all your grandchildren we say;
Grandma
Rest in perfect peace!
