HANSEL AND GRETEL

Short Story

Hansel and Gretel lived in a cottage with their father and their wicked
stepmother. The cruel woman didn't like her two stepchildren, so she
took them into the forest and abandoned them there! Hansel and
Gretel were lost. They came to a peculiar house made completely
from sweets. They were so famished that they ate some of the
delicious walls.

But an evil witch lived there. She caught them, locked Hansel in a
cage and made Gretel her servant. She even planned to devour them
both! One day, she lit her oven and told Gretel to get inside.

Gretel knew what the witch was planning to do.

Gretel cried, 'I could never fit in there!'

"Of course you could," the witch replied, "Look!"

As the witch crawled into the oven, Gretel quickly slammed the door
so the witch couldn't get back out. Then, she released Hansel from the
cage. When they searched the witch's house, they discovered lots of
treasure.

Finally, they ran home, their pockets stuffed with riches.

Their father cried with joy when he saw them. He told his wicked wife
to go and never come back!
