1. Introduction

First of all, we have to differentiate between hardware and software. Hardware

is the physical part of the computer, while software is the set of programs and
applications that a computer has.

2.Types of software

Within the software we find two types: system software and application
software. System software includes the operating system itself, device drivers,
middleware, web browsers, media players and more. Application software are
programs designed to perform specific tasks.

Application software is the set of programs that allow the development of certain
functions. Very diverse products enter this group, from an Internet browser to a
spreadsheet.
Some examples are: mocilla firefox, AGV antivirus or Word.

The system software is usually very simple and manages the potential of the
computer, according to the instructions of the operating system
Among the main functions of the system software are the control of the transfer
of resources, the management of RAM memory, access to peripherals or the
hard drive
Some examples are the BIOS or the operating system.

i. I.Operating system
An operating system is a set of programs that allows us to manage the memory,
disk, information storage media and the different peripherals or resources of our
computer, such as the keyboard, mouse, printer or network card.
Current PC operating systems are Microsoft Windows, Unix, GNU/Linux, Mac
OS, Solaris, Google Chrome OS, Debian, Ubuntu, Mandriva, Sabayon, Fedora
and Reactos. Of all the operating systems for PCs, the best known are
Windows, GNU/Linux and Mac OS.

ii. II.Utility software

The Utility Software is a system software that helps to maintain the proper and
smooth functioning of a Computer System. It assists the Operating System to
manage, organize, maintain, and optimize the functioning of the computer
system.

Utility Software performs certain tasks like virus detection, installation, and
uninstallation, data backup, deletion of unwanted files, etc. Some examples are
antivirus software, file management tools, compression tools or disk
management tools.
