SYSTEM OF ASTROLOGY CHAPTER I Stellar effects of planets This system [8 so called because, predictions as per thls system were originally made from a study of the Nadis (4. ¢. pulse) of persons in the same manner as Ayurvedic Doctors do. Besides, this system of Astrology Is allied and related 10 other important sciences as Vaidya, Yoga, Samudrika, and Manthra Sastra. This system follows closely the principles and theories of Astrologers of old. The astrological term 'Grihachara* which is a bye-word commonly used fromtime immemorial, when- ever persons are 1m trouble, literally means, ;he movements of Grahas or Planets in different conste- llations. This clearly indicates that at all times the predictions were based on the stellar Influences for accuracy. We may just mentlon how the sciences are inter- related. For Instance, the 60 ghatikas of a day converted to Kalas gives 21600. This figure Is taken by Yoga practitioners as so many pranayamas per day. This 21800 Kalas ls distributed amongst the twelve Rasls of the zodiac i. e {800 Kalas per Rasl. Again If this 1800 Is divided into 60 Kalas we get 30 degrees for cach Rasl. In like manner, a deep study of the various sciences will disclose the later-relativity 1n many aspects. In Chandra's constetintions;— Being the constellations of a friend, Ravi here gives good results as, honours from Government and Kings, birth of children, success in attempts etc.. and makes him well known. In Kidas constellations :—The position of Ravi is not good to the native who wil{ sutler from {health, lose his peace of mind and will involve himself 1 quarrels and litigations. Deaths may also occur In the family or In the circle of friends. in Budha's Constellations—The results are similar to those as In Guru's constellations. Besides, if Budha Is a benefic planet In the native's chart, he makes the native very prominent In learning, and prosperity In trade Is very much Increased. In Guru's constellations :—The native wlll be helped to secure succesg In official career, will have children and happiness In the family, prospers In trade and acquires wealth therefrom. In Sutra's Constellations :—In the beginning — the native is made to suffer to some extent, and then some good resnits will be ylelded, even which will not be satisfactory to the native. The native Incurs the resentmeat of ladles. If the Influences of fith or filth or 12:h houses combine, there Is a possibility of danger through water to the native. In Sani's or Rahu's Constellations :—Ravl is not fit to glve good results to the native. The native experiences enmity, loss of wealth, obstructions for progress In Ife unnecessary fears and sorrows ete. In Kethu's Constetlations:—-Sudden and unexpected deaths wlll occur jo the family and the native will be made to wander almlessty. Sometimes he may undertake pilgrimages. Generally, If Ravt Is well dispossed to the native and a benefic of lagna situated In a powerful house he produces good results, Jt must be noted that the Lord of the constellation in which Bavl Is, should also be benefic and powerful planet to give very good results, KUJA (AND KETHU) When Kuja ‘a Jn Yoga karaka's constellations with proper Guna he generally gives good results. The native In such cases becomes well known, gains victory in quarrels, and disputes and acquires some property in the shape of lands elec, When Kuja is In his own constellations— Bad effects such as {Whealth, poverty death of near relations. troubles from Government ete., attend the natlve. These bad effects will be aggravatedly felt by the native If Kuja is not also a benefic planet, in additfon to being In hls own constellations. In Budha‘s Consteflations +—-Similar results as In Guru's wlll be forthcoming. In addition, the native will prosper Im trade and hia aptitude for art and culture Is Increased. In The Constellation of Gurat—Thenative wlll first experience so ne difficulties and later enfoy good effects. The good will be happiness of birth of children, acquisition of some property, fame and honour due to mental culture elc. The native wl not also enjoy peace of mind and contentmeal In Sukra's constellations: A sort of valo glory which Is unreal Is exhibited. The native further sustains losses through women, and (health and enmity are also caused, but if they are favourable to the native, the resnits Will not be very harmful. dn Sani's or Rahu't constellations :—The native Is forced to leave his place of residence, lose hls means of livelihood and be afraid of thefts etc. If the tordshlps .Of 3rd, 6th and 8th house also combine the na'ive will be troubled by his enemies. In Kethe's constellations :—Thenative wlll enjoy good results provided they are without malefic Influences according to situation and ownership. In Ravi's constellations :—-Theative is valorous and courageous and fights his way through all difficulties. The results wll! be good, In. Chandra's constellations :—The native will sustain loss from trade in white articles, and the native wil) not enjoy real happiness. There will be only an outward show of It. GURU (AND BUDHA) When Guru [8 In his men consteltations.—Thenative gels good education, enjoys wealth, Is honoured by superiors and leads generally a happy life. The native will have snecess In northern and southern directions only In Sukra’s constellations = The native enjoys good results 1o a certain degree, such as marriage Jn the family. honours of educationa) qualifications etc. Further. Sukra also enables the native to own vehicles. in Saat's or Raku's constellations :—Produces Ilhealth poverty to the native and keeps him In fear. Sometimes the native’s near and dear relations will dle, and the native Will hear such sorrowful news. in Kida's or Kethu's constellations :—Thenative will be made to suffer generally in these constellations. He may sustain loss throngh fire. Involve himself In debts, lose his peace of mind. disturb his health, create ill-will with hls friends and will br shifted from place to place In Ravits or Chandra's constellations :—\0 these constellations the native enjoys very good results. He will he crowned with success In all his attempts, acquire the friendships of many and gains thereof, will partake in happy auspicious ceremonies In the family, will be honoured by Government and will be well-known In society. SUKRA tAND CHANDRA) When Sukra is in Ait own constellations.and provided he Is a benefic. he produces good results as marriage Ir the family, wealth from women, gains through trade etc The native is also honoured. 9 In Sani‘s and kelhu's constetlations:~Sukrals not happily placed. The resuls wlll be unfavonrable to the native. But if Sanl and Kethn happen to be Yoga- Karakas, the native escapes from the adverse effects. In Rahu's constellations ;-—ithoughhe results may not be very good, some uncxpec'ed good will be enjoyed by the native. In Ravi's constellations especially, when — both Sukra and Rav! are benefics, the uative will enjoy the benefits of Rajayoga. The ative will get wealth, honours etc. according to the ownerships of Sukra and Ravl. At Chandra's consctellations though In the beginning there will be good results, the end wil] dissatisfy the native. General good results will be. acquisition of wealth from ladies, gains from unthought of sources. and travels in cool climatic places. The bad effects will be Tll-health in the family, and if malefic influences combine, fateful results from Ill-health w1]I result. In Kida's constellations :-Sukra produces bad effects to the uative, as Hl-health, anxlety, Joss of finance aud other difficulties. If however. Kuja Is either weak, or influenced by benefics, the virulence of the bad effects wI)l be lessened appreciably. In Bud ha’s constellations —theative becomes famous for his learning, and gains through trade. Menial culture W!ll be Improved as well as appreciation of art and literature. 10 In Guru's censtellations:—theeffects will generally be good. The native earns well, enjoys happiness from birth of children, and auspicious ceremonfes etc. An Interest in puranle religious literature Is also created. SANI (AND RAHU) When Sani Is in Yoga Karaka’s constellations, and In his proper Guna, the native wlll enjoy good results as, happiness, contentment, success In attempts, profits through black meterlals etc. In Rahku's orthis own constellations :—The effects wlll be bad, In the beginning. The native's health will be disturbed, enmity wlth relations will be caused, and sometimes there will be danger from poison also. But the native will in the end get over these difficulties: when the results will also be good. In Keihu's constellations -—The native will enjoy very good result when Kethu xs not unfavourable to the native. én Ravi's constellations Here the results Wil be bad to the native. He will sustain losses of relatives and weath, willbe troubled by the Government, and very often, aiming to attain greater objectives, wlll fall, and lose heavily. In Chandra's Censtetlations —the results will be almost similar to those, in Ravi's constellations. Besides, I the native will suffer from Phlegmatic diseases, and will be mentally worried. However, some good results Will be forthcoming, as pilgrimages to holy places, and Conscquent peace of mind etc. In Kudja's Constellations :—theresults are always bad [n this condHion. The native suffers losses through fire and enemles, some of his friends will pass away, there will be quarrels and disorders in the family, giving place to dlscontentment, unhappiness and sorrows; and the native may also sustain wounds in the body. If the lordship of the fith or 8th houses also combine, the results will be very much worse to the native. In Guru's Constellations :—The results will be good but will not be very appreciable And the same Is the case when Sanl ts In Budha’s Constellations. If Budha or Guru ie a Yoga karaka to the native, he will get back hls lost wealth. prospers In hte profession, and gains dignity and honour by hls education. tn Sukra's Constellations :—‘he native loses __ his relations and hls wife may pass away. Losses through trade and debts will be Incurred. CuHaPTBER I Dasa phala and Phala kala (Time of Events)’ GOCHARA (TRANSIT) The results of Ihe movements of the planets should Rot be determined on their movements from house to house, but (hey should be based on the constellations through which the planets will be passing. This Is called Sookshma Gochara. The determination of the Influences of Sookshma Gochara should chiefly be based on the Influences of the concurrent Dasas and Bhuktis according to the position of the glanets In the birth chart of the native. Ifa planet [s a benefic to a lagna, the planet will yield good results when it passes through the benefic constellations of the particular Lagna. The extent of the good results wIl] depend upon the strength of the benefic planet in the birth chart. On the other hand, wheu the same planet passes through the malefic constellations of the particular lagna, the good result will be lessened to the extent of the influence of the lords of the malefic constellations Im the birth chart. Sometimes ft may also produce bad results. It should also be noted that whenever such benefic planets influence either by conjunction, or in constella- tions, or by aspect, in Gochara. they yield such good results. 13 Similarly influences of matefic planets In the birth chart should be determined to a greater degree whenever they pass through malefic constellations, and such bad influences will he mitigated when they pass through benefic constellations of the particular lagna in Gochara. The following examples wlll elucidate Ihe forcgolng:- Here is a birth chart of a person whose Lagna is Vrischika. Kuja, lord of 6th house Is aspecting Guru, Jord of 2nd and Sth houses. This Indicates sickness to the native's children, and hfs financial difficulties. When Kuja and Gurn were In conjunction in Simha in Gochara the native's child was serionsly Ill, and the native was In difficult clreumstances. Birth > | Kuja —| chact of — father { 1 ~ Guru In the following example, Guru, Lord of 2nd aud Sth houses [8 in Anuradha, Sani's constellations. This Indicates sickness of children and expenditure to the 14 native. When the native was in Guru Dasa, and when Guru was passing through Uttarabhadrapada, In Gochara, the native's daughter contracted a complicated illness. Bich —- chart of —_ father Gara Lo Anuradha The native of the following chart died in Kethu Dasa, Sant Bhukth At the time of death, both Sani and Kethn were fa coojunction, and were passing through Aswini in Gochara. Z| / Ketka Birth chart 15 This Illustratton is the chart of a Vrishabha Lagna native, with Budha and Sani In the second house. When Saal, Jord, of Karma bhava was passing through Revati the native got his first appointment. At that particular me the native was in Budha bhuktl. 7 | Botte Bani ———-] Birth chart : —— Though there may be a good combination in Gochara but If the same [s aspecled by a malefic planet for the particular lagna, there is sure to be an obstacle to the good results for the native, as long as the malefic aspect continues, and Immediately that passes, the native will enjoy the good results of the benefic planet. Similarly, when the position Is bad In Gochara, but if aspected by a benefic planet of the particular lagna. nothing bad will take place as long as the good aspect continues and Immediately that passes the result of the bad influence will be experienced only afterwards. Predicting ' Thithi' and ' Paksha' of the occurance of events as Births. Marriages, etc, to the Native: Take the honse or Ras! Im which the planet responsible for 16‘ the event is situated. Divide It into two parts of 15 degrees each. If the Rasl {s odd, the first part Is known as Sukla Paksha. and the second part as Krishna Paksha. If it is an even Rasl the firs: part is krishna Pakshaand the second as Sukla Paksha. Locate the particular degree Im which the plane: 18 sitmated. The event must occur during the thithi corresponding to the number of degree Im which the planet is situated. In the chart below, Sukra who is responsible for the birth of the native, is In Jyeshta 2nd pada, Is between 20 deg. and 23 deft. 20 m of the house i. e. between 5 deg. and 8&8 deg, 20m of the second part of the Rasl. The birth was Im Sukla Paksha. The particular thithi can be arrived at on calculating the exact degree in which the planet is situated, as 3 deg, 20 min represent a little over three thithis. FOE yb Herr 1? In the instance given above the birth took place on a Saptaml which falls within these degrees. Further the part of the day im which the event has occurred or will take place is Indicated by the Nakshatra pada in which the planet responsible for occurance of the event is situated. In the IMlustration first, below Budha, responsible for the birth of the native, is {n Makha 3rd pada, which indicates the 3rd part of the day from sunrise, ie. between 6 P. M. and 12 midnight. Actually, the birth took place at 10 P. M. In the above instance, ' ry | fi ft _ | an) I ll | _ Pb Makha 3 . LSANL dyoshtn 1 | \ | | In the Second illustration, the birth has taken place in San] Bhuktl. Since Sani is in the first pada of Jyeshta the birth took place In the first part of the day, i. e. between 0 A. M. and 12 noon. Yaa 2 p. 18-19 missing ! 20 {¥. B) lt ls not necessary thal a planet should be actually lo the honse of exaltation in Amsa dfbgram to get Rajasa characteristics, but It [s sufficient If one of the quarters of the constellation falls Im the honse of exaltation. For example:—IfGurn were to be In Rohini, he gets Rajasa characteristics Irrespective of the pada this constellation and 11 is not necessary that he should be In fourth pada Itself of this star. The following examples will clearly !Ilustrale the mixed nature of the results of the Dasas. In the adjoining diagram Gurn is in Pushyam! 4th pada. The Lord of the star is Sani. The native enjoyed the benefits of Guru Dasa fully for the first I2 years, and feli the effects of Sani In the last period of 4 years. In the diagram aside, Bedha is !m Mula 3rd pada, whose Lord Ie Kehtu. The native's financial conditions 21 were steadily Increasing In the beginning, but after the lapse of the first eight years and s{x months, the native's financial conditions were reversed and became bad due to the influence of Kethu. Batha Mola 3 Chandra [a occupying Makha 2nd pada, In the Wlustratlon. The Lord of Makha is Kethu. It will be teen that Chandra geta Uchhamsa In Navamea diagram, and hence he gets Rajasa qualities to glve good effects in his Dasa. It Is true that the native enjoyed prosperous and happy IIfe during the first period of 2 years and & months. After this period he began to feel the bad effects for the next two years and a half. as Chandra !# in second quarter of Makha. He was again well off after the expiry of the bad period of two and a half years, In thls Illustration, Budha is In Aslesha 3rd pada, whisis his own constellation. The native enjoyed good heath during the first half of Budha Bhuktl. and he was lald up with Typhoid and was cured before the lapse of the third part of Budha Bhukt!, but he had a relapse, and had to suffer again. Complete recovery was effected only after the expiry of the third part of Budha Bhuktl. (Note : Budha, Lord of eight House) Budhn 7 Asalaha S 23 Sometimes the effects of other planets will actually occur before they ought to as calculated on the basis of quarters of constellations, Similarly, they may also happen beyond the period calculated. These are due to the planetary combinations of the Lord of the constella- tion In which the Lord of the dasa Is situated, as such effects are also given during the Bhuktis of planets combining with the steller ford. It wlll be clearly understood from the following examples. “A! YA | l —_— —_] 2 |. )-—_—___| - al ol] ¢ ets ee : =f } aye I a] & —— —_ ~"~T we + —. =r7 | east ee }2 7 | Now tn the first diagram Guru ts in Pashyami 4th pada, whose Lord, Saol. is single without the association of other planets. “As per the rules enunciated, the bad effectsin Guru dasa should occur only in the last four years of that Dasa, and it was so, for there Is no combi- nations of other planets with Sani. Iu the second diagram, Guru ts in Pushyami 3rd pada. As per mles aforesaid, troubles should occur or 24 cémmence only after eight years of Guru dasa, but jt was not so. Actually, the troubles began with Budha Bhuktl of Guru dasa in the second quarter of Guru dasa, because Budha !s In association with the Lord of the constellation, Saol. The troubles continued tI the expiry of the third part of the dasa. Gunas and their effects on Phala Differentiations should be made In the characteristics of the planets when they occupy the same house In the Navamsa diagram, though they remain In different constellations. For example, when Ravi 1s In Kethu's (Aswini-Makha and Mola,). to Chandra's, (Rohini, Hasta and Sravana), In Gurn's. (Punarvasu, Visakha, and Purvabhadra). ¢onstellations. he gets Uchhamsa. or in other words becomes Rajasa, but yet these are different characteristics of one and same planet. When he ts tn Kelhu's constellations, he becomes Thamasa Rajasa, In Guru's he becomes Satwlka-Rajasa, and in Chandra's Rajasa-Rajasa. To give best results, Ravi should be Rajasa-Rajasa, the next Is Satwlka-Rajasa, and last. Thamasa-Rajasa. 25 Lordship and its effects on Phala To completely determine the effecls the Lordships of the planets should be considered, Poparrnes | | Hastn In the first diagram Ravi. no doubt gets the character of Rajasa-Rajasa by remaining !n II ista but the Lord of Hasta becomes the owner of 8th house which affects the good effects of Ravi. For the particular Lagna (Dhanus) when Rav! remains In Guru's constellations, though It Is Satwika Rajasa. It Is the best. In the second illustration Ravi Is In Punarvasu and hence gets Rajasamsa. known as Satwika-Rajasa. As Guru Is the Lord of third and sixth houses, the good effects of Ravi are affected, and hence In this case the native will have gaod results only when Ravi {8 Im Chandra's constellation “ho becomes the Lord of the tenth house. 26 Friendship etc., and its effect on Phala. Further the nature of relationship* (friendship and enmity) of the planet occupying the constellation towards the Lord of the constellation should also be viewed in forecasting Ihe results. As an example, if Sani were to remain in Sravana, he gets Thamasamsa which is no doubt good to him, but there fs (he enmity of Sani wlth Chandra. In this case the native will enjoy, both good and bad results Iq Sani dasa. Hf San] were to be In Mhnla, whose Lord, Kethu. is a friend of hlm, Sani dasa will be extremely good. At times it happens a single planet Is a friend of two other planets, and a distinclion should be drawn between them In predicting results. When Sukra Is In Aslesha (Budha's constellation) he gets Uchhamsa and he {s also a friend of Budha. Similarly. Sukra Is a friend of Rahu and in Swathi also he gets Uchhamsa, the two results will vary, thongh, both Rahn and Budha are friends of Sukra and get Uchhamsa. Rahu‘s friendship Is Thamasa. and Bndha's Is Satwika. In Rahu's case, the results will be delayed with difficuitles. and will tempt and Induce the native to associate wlth bad company, and enter into bad enterprises. Budha will give the opposite effects. A planet may possess all the strengths as Lordships and Characteristics enumerated above, yel the results might vary dne to the positlon, character and association of the Lord of the constellation in which the Lord of the Bhava Is situated. The annexed examples are given to draw the distinctions. Here Kuja in Jyeshta In both Ihe cases. occupying Vrischika having \hesame characteristics and ownerships: 27 but the position of Budha, the Lord of Jyeshta varics. In one case he fs in Lagna, which !s a powerful place, pardeularly for him; and {n other case he !s in Simha, which 1s the lith house. The native of first was having more wealth than that of second. Jysahen Jyeshta How To Predict the results of a Dasa Before commencing to predict the results of a Dasa, the ownership, situation, aspects on, ete. of the Lord of the Dasa should be noted. The "Guna" (nature) of the Lord of the Dasa should also be considered. Further, It must be decided, to which Bhava the Lord 01 the Dasa is the "Jeeva," as the native will enjoy the results of that Bhava during the said period. Below arc a few studies on the subject. 28 Aanini Srayoni In chart No. 1. above the Lord of the Sth house Is Guru and he Is in Sravana, Chandra's constellation. Here the Jeeva of the 9th Bhava ts Chandra, who is In Aswini. the constellation of Kethn. a Thamasa. Hence Chandra has become a Thamasa, and as a result the native lost hls father In Chandra Dasa. Aawinl | ' | | 'Connd ra, | | va ‘| | | 7 | Here In chart No. I, Chandra becomes the Jeeva of the 10th house, #, ¢., the Karma Bhava, as Sukra Is in _ ll Sesvann—| Sekra 29 Sravana, Chandra's constellation, and Lord of ihe 10th honse Here also Chandra being In Aswini, the constellation of Kethu, becomes Thamasic In nature, and consequently the native lost his employment In Chandra Dasa. . Arwini loo Chaud ra, | tadta | Sruvenu—- 4 7 i In Jitustranon No. UL above, the the Jeeva of the Kalathra Bhava (7th honse) Is Chandea. as {ts lord Budha In Sravana, Chandra's constellation. Hence the native lost his wife in Chandra Dasa. 1 Canny is, | Balle Mule Usete 30 Illustration No. LV, above. Is that of a Simha lagna native, Chandra becomes Jeevn for both Dhana and Kalathra Bhavas. because Budha, lord of the 2nd house is Im Hastha, and Sani, lord of the 7th house is in Sravana, both Chandra's constellations. Consequently. during Chandra dasa, the native was separated from his wife, and sustained heavy financial losses. . Time of event of the Chara effects of Retrograde Planets As regards the chara effects of planets In general a detailed discussion has been done before. In the case of retrograde planets there are certain peculiarities arising : 1. In the case of retrograde malefics the chara effect will be felt at the point where the planet Is actually situated at birth, while. 2. In the case of retrograde benefics the effect has to be read as If It were placed at the point from which it actually commenced retrogression. Illustration: — Koja (malefic) though commences retrogression from Bharani I and is at birth time In Asviol 4 his chara results have to be read out from Asvin] 1. When Guro (benefic) 15 under similar circumstances results are to be read out from Bharani 1,the point of commencement, of retrogression. (P. S) In the above arguments only the natural benefics and natural malefics are considered. aL Similurity in Planetary influences indicating same eventsin Parents’ and Childrens’ charts :— It Is often mistaken that the influences of the planetary positions in the birth charts of one's children affect the conditions of the parents In life, favourably or unfavourably. But the fact Is that similar planetary influences will be revealed on a comparative study of the charts of the parents and their children, portending the same events. For Instance, if the position or status of a person is not good according to his or her horoscope, the same conditions will be Indicated in his or her children's charts.
