VIP-363-HOA Builder Introduction
The VIP-363-HOA Builder is an Excel based workbook that a used to create the controller’s Devconfig.dcf file, device
pointdata.mdb file, and the I/O mapping deviomap.csv file. The tools features and operation are similar all the Builder
series tools in layout and user features. The tool does not save or update the Compass device manager database since
the VIP controllers are Ethernet LAN based and are readily discovered by Compass device scans. The workbook features
include the following worksheets:
The base areas to enter data are Project, Location, Architect, Elect Engr, Description, Mech Engr, Elect Contractor, Mech
Contractor, Alerton Dealer, Engineer, Device Instance, Application, Descriptions, Units, Name, etc. The primary
configuration of the worksheet is based on selections made from two major sections of the worksheet.

Microset Detection Mode Options Device Units Options
All inputs can be scaled via a 2-point scaling mechanism by defining Input Value – Low (X1), Input Value – High (X2),
Output Value – Low (Y1), and Output Value – High (Y2). The default is X1=0, X2=1, Y1=0, Y2=1.
For example, an Analog Input (AI) is set to voltage (0-10V) to measure inches water column and that setting is -.5 to 1.5
you would set the input low value to 0, input high value to 10, then the output low value to -.5 and the output high to
1.5 – the AI is now displaying inches water column.
Output Scaling
Identical to input scaling except rather than scaling the input value, the scaling here applies to the output values. It too is
a 2-point linear scale.

Analog, & Binary Values Configuration
The Analog Values and Binary Values worksheet data entry is like the worksheets within VLVLCMaster.xlsm. When you
enter descriptions in the “Description” column, formulas in the “Name” column updates to match the description
entries. The “Name” column cells are not locked so you can enter any value necessary.
1) The Name(1) defaults are MV0, MV1…MV49. They must be unique as object names.
2) The data on this worksheet is not saved to pointdata.mdb if values are not entered for Description, Name, and States.
The save process will abort for following rows.
4) Always enter MV Object values starting at object 0 consecutively to object 49. Do not skip object rows.
5) Always enter state values starting at state1 consecutively to state20. Do not skip state cells within a row.
The following is an example MVs worksheet with two rows with state value definitions.
• Selecting the Number of AVs cell and entering a value (default is 120) between 120 and 500 expands the number
of rows of the Analog Values worksheet.

Point Remapping
The VIP controllers support the concept of remapping of the I/O points. The purpose of point remapping allows you to
drop in replace the Alerton VLC, VAV, VLC-E, & VAV-E MS/TP controllers with a VIP configuration. The VisualLogic DDC
files after a minor update from .bd4 to .bd9 are a direct drop in, and the Compass displays and templates are ready to
use, no device instance updating required. What point remapping accomplishes is taking the device instance base I/O
and assigning it as a new virtual I/O point. For example, base AI I/O is AI-9000. AI-9000 may be remapped as AI-0. DDC
loaded into the controller, and Compass graphics and templates that use AI-0, are automatically link to the remapped
values. The range of point number remapping is 0-999. Any values greater than 999 will be rejected by the VIP
controllers.

Config VIP+VXIO as VLC-853
As a practical example, lets create a VIP solution for a VLC-853 controller.
• 8 Analog Inputs
• 8 Binary Inputs
• 5 Binary Outputs
• 3 Analog Outputs
The VIP-363-HOA I/O configurations consists of:
• 9 Analog Inputs
• 9 Binary Inputs
• 6 Binary Outputs
• 5 Analog Outputs
Reviewing I/O combinations above, the best fit is a base VIP-363-HOA and a VXIO-322-HOA, as the VXIO-965-HOA is over
kill. Open VIP-363-HOA_Builder.xlsm. Follow the above procedures, filling out all the required project data, device
instance, rep\job and DCF criteria.
The first step is to set up the workbook configuration to support point remapping. Just below the project information
sections is an option to enable point remapping.

VIP-363-HOA & VIP-363-VAV Builder User Guide
Reference the Remapping Notes:
(2) Base I/O point settings are fixed type, instance, and object name. (Reference the 9000 series range.)
(3) Remapped UIO (Universal Input\Output) settings are the user assigned point instances set to match specific
application DDC points I/O configuration.
When remapping points, the entire range of numbers must be used, duplicates are not allowed. Example: Remap points
are duplicated across the HOA has AI 0 & each of the VXIOs have AI 0.
Remapping points needs to be done across the entire range of I/O, AI's, BI's, AO's, & BO's.
The range of I/O point remapping is 0-999.
Do not set the "Create DevIOmap.csv on Workbook Save" to Yes(3) unless you are remapping points
The remapped points are configured for the VIP using a CSV file named
DevIOmap.csv saved to the Rep\Job\DEVnnnnn (device instance) folder. The remapped points update within the
controller when a Point Data Send is performed from Compass Device Manager.
Add VXIO
Clicking on the Add VXIO tool button opens the dialog window with options to choose the VXIO module type.
Choose VXIO module type and select the desired MAC address 1 thru 8 from the dropdown and click Add VXIO.
Worksheet VXIO_1 for the VXIO-322 has been added to the workbook. The base point instance is derived from the MAC
address. The following new point remapping columns are now visible:
Revised 7/23/2020
VIP-363-HOA & VIP-363-VAV Builder User Guide
After analyzing the base universal I/O points on the 363 and 322, the 363 has 3 AOs and the 322 has 2 AOs. Best choice
is to reconfigure the VXIO 322’s universal I/O and use the 363’s AOs as part of the VLC-853 remapping. Selecting the
VXIO_1 (the 322) worksheet, use the “I/O Points Hardware Mode” selections to configure the UI/O.
Now the VXIO_1 universal I/O AI-3 and AI-4 are part of the new point for the I/O remapping.
Revised 7/23/2020
VIP-363-HOA & VIP-363-VAV Builder User Guide
Next configure the I/O points to correctly align with the VLC-853 I/O points. In this instance, the VXIO points shall remain
as their original values. The VIP-363-HOA’s points shall be renumbered (mapped) to point instances consistent with the
VLC-853. The following illustrate the remapped points (yellow highlights).
The VIP-363-HOA’s IN0 AI/BI 0, IN1 AI/BI 1, and IN2 AI/BI 2 are changed to IN0 A I /BI 5, IN1 AI/BI 6, and IN2 AI/BI 7.
Saving the workbook will generate the DevIOMap.csv file in the rep job device instance folder.
The last steps are to “Save Pointdata” and “Update DCF” to finish the point remapping.
Checking the Rep\Job|DEV1220 folder with Windows Explorer show the following files have been created.
Use device manager to send these values to the VIP-363-HOA creating the internal virtual I/O points. This feature allows
existing DDC applications to be reused with none to minimal changes or updates.
