“About Adam Mysock.” Adam Mysock. Accessed March 9, 2023.

Adam Mysock is an artist who does acrylic miniature paintings as a small devotional
object just like the concept of the tokens of love (lover's eyes) that my inspiration for the
way I am executing my project comes from.

Ahmad, Hazrat Mirza Bashir. Our God. Islam International Publications, Limited, 2017.

The beauty of God lies and is being hidden from our physical eyes and yet apparent to us
through his attributes. The absence of a physical representation or a form of the entity we
know as God should not cause any uncertainty about his existence, for there are far more
certain and conclusive ways available to recognize him. The idea here is that if God could
be seen in one's eyes, he would not be worth believing in. This is because in such a case
many of his other attributes would be falsified.

Ahmad, Hazrat Mirza Ghulam. Malfuzat – Volume I. Islam International Publications, Limited,
2018.

"Men of strong hands and powerful vision" (Quran, 38:46). This establishes that God
Almighty loves those who observe both his works and words and reflect on them, not
only with their physical eyes but with their inner sight as well.

Allan McCollum is an artist that works in quantities making things that are singular and
unique. His work relates to mine when it comes to the aspect of the mass production of
his art and the concept of repetition that is part of that process.

segment/.

Shahzia Sikander specializes in Indian and Persian miniature painting, blending the
Eastern focus on precision and methodology with a Western emphasis on creative,
subjective expression. Sikander transported miniature painting into the realm of
contemporary art. Her process of making is similar to mine cause she describes it as a
form of prayer that is rooted in her devotion.
Grabar, Oleg. Mostly Miniatures: An Introduction to Persian Painting. Princeton, NJ: Princeton
University Press, 2002.

Oleg Grabar introduces Western audiences to Persian paintings, which have a visual
richness that requires the use of the intellect as well as the eye for their appreciation. The
book talks about various aspects of Persian painting, such as its history, the
characteristics that define it, and the delights to be discovered in it.

Shirin Neshat is by far the most internationally well-known Iranian contemporary artist,
her work is shaped by self-reflection, it's a mirror of her identity. My original work was
inspired by hers where it combines both text and imagery.

Measures of Distance is a video work comprising several layered elements. Letters

written by Hatoum's mother in Beirut to her daughter in London appear as Arabic text
moving over the screen and are read aloud in English by Hatoum. The background
images are slides of Hatoum's mother in the shower, taken by the artist during a visit to
Lebanon. It's the combination of text and imagery and that intimacy that my work shares
with hers.
