(Gross motor skills activities)

This activity is a fun way to read a book and get moving at the same time.

Brown Bear: Do bear walking around the room. Mix it up by doing it slow, fast, forward, and
backward. This is a great full-body movement.

Red Bird: Flap your arms like a bird. They can do this slow or fast. You can also do a variation
with this by holding arms back making a v and zooming around the room.

Yellow Duck: Waddle like a duck. This is fun to quack at the same time. Do forward and
backward with this motion.

Blue Horse: Gallop like a horse. The children gallop around the room. You do slow and fast.

Green Frog: Frog Jumps across the room. You can change it up by seeing how high or how far
they can jump. You also do fast jumps and slow jumps. It is fun to mix up big and small jumps as
well.

Purple Cat: Pretend to be a cat swatting at a ball. The children would be on their hands and
knees and would take one hand and move the hand in front of the body. Just like they were
swatting a pretend ball. This was great to work on balance.

Black Sheep: Crawl like a sheep. Crawl around on the floor. Do slow and fast and forward and
backward.

Goldfish: Swim like a fish. Do two different motions for this. Do kicking with just feet and
swimming with just arms.

6) The Little Red Hen
- This story tells us the story of a hen who makes her
home with a very lazy cat, dog, and mouse. When the
hard-working hen discovers grains of wheat in the gar-
den, she asks her housemates to help her plant and
tend the wheat. When they refuse, she does the chores
her- self.
The moral of this story is that hard work pays off, but
laziness has consequences; if we all helped each other,
we would all be able to benefit more.

Making a collage

Collage is a great activity which allows children to


use their imagination and create a wonderful
effect, whether they have innate artistic ability or
not.

Things needed:
cotton balls/feathers and colour pencil.

How to make it?

Firstly, let children to put cotton balls or feathers


on the body of the hen. Then, colour the hat red
and the rest of the body brawn or any other
colour.

Do handprint little red hen.

Let the children transform their handprint into a


little red hen.
7) Goldilocks and three bears
- Avstory about a little girl, Goldilocks, who is
looking for where she fits in. One day, she
stumbles onto the home of the three bears. She
tries out three porridges (bowls of oatmeal), three
chairs, and three beds before finding one of each
that fits her perfectly.

-The moral of “Goldilocks and the 3 Bears” for


kids is that “one should never enter into
someone else's home or property without their
permission” or “one should never intrude
someone's privacy.
