Definition of terms

For better clarification and understanding of the terms related to the study, the following terms are
defined operationally.

Drop out - A dropout is a pupil who was enrolled in the beginning of the school year and has left before
the end of the school year, and was not enrolled elsewhere. A student who leaves school definitively in a
given school year.

Cogent - Convincing or believable by virtue of forcible, clear, or incisive presentation; telling. to


the point; relevant; pertinent.borrowed from Latin cōgent-, cōgens, present participle
of cōgere "to drive together, gather, compress, force, compel,"

Students - It refers to the learners in grade 10 that are enrolled for school year 2022-2023 Middle
English, from Latin student-, studens, from present participle of studēre to study

Poverty - Poverty is about not having enough money to meet basic needs including food, clothing and
shelter that affects the students to stop their studies. poverté, from Latin paupertat-, paupertas,
from pauper poor

Prevention - The action of stopping something from happening or arising.

Feedback

It is proven that students are most likely to drop out because of problems than dropping out just because
they wanted to, aside from that poverty and teenage pregnancy are the main reason why grade 10 learners
drop out from school.
