CHAPTER FOUR

Data Analysis

Introduction:

This chapter presents the analysis of the data collected to investigate the public perception
towards life insurance cover in Mwanza. The data analysis process involved examining the
responses obtained from the survey conducted among residents of Mwanza. This analysis
aimed to gain insights into the general perception, awareness, and attitudes towards life
insurance, as well as the factors influencing public perception. The results of this analysis will
help understand the current public perception towards life insurance cover and provide
valuable information for insurance companies to improve their communication and marketing
strategies.

Analyzing the Use and Expected Results:

To analyze the data, both qualitative and quantitative methods were utilized. The survey
questionnaire consisted of a combination of close-ended and open-ended questions, allowing
for a comprehensive analysis of the responses. The collected data was processed and organized
using statistical software. The following sections present the key findings from the data analysis.

1. Demographic Profile:

The analysis began with examining the demographic profile of the respondents. This included
factors such as age, gender, educational background, occupation, and income level.
Understanding the demographic characteristics of the respondents provides a context for
interpreting their perceptions and attitudes towards life insurance.

2. Awareness and Understanding:

The analysis focused on assessing the level of awareness and understanding of life insurance
among the respondents. Questions related to familiarity with life insurance, knowledge of its
benefits, and understanding of the coverage options were analyzed. The data was used to
determine the extent to which the public in Mwanza is informed about life insurance and its
relevance in financial planning.

3. Perception and Attitudes:

The analysis aimed to identify the overall perception and attitudes of the respondents towards
life insurance. Close-ended questions measuring perception, such as trust in insurance
companies, perceived value of life insurance, and perceived barriers to obtaining coverage,
were analyzed quantitatively. Additionally, qualitative analysis was conducted on the responses
to open-ended questions to gain deeper insights into the specific factors influencing public
perception.

4. Factors Influencing Perception:

One of the main objectives of the analysis was to identify the factors influencing public
perception towards life insurance in Mwanza. Through qualitative analysis, recurring themes,
concerns, and recommendations mentioned by the respondents were identified. This analysis
helped identify specific cultural, social, and economic factors that shape public perception
towards life insurance cover.

Expected Results:

Based on the initial data analysis, several expected results have emerged. It is expected that a
significant portion of the respondents have a limited understanding of life insurance, with
varying degrees of awareness and knowledge about its benefits. Trustworthiness and credibility
of insurance companies are likely to be critical factors influencing public perception. Cultural
factors, such as beliefs in communal support systems, and social factors, such as peer influence
and recommendations, are expected to play a role in shaping perception. The analysis may also
reveal common barriers or misconceptions that hinder individuals from obtaining life insurance
coverage.
