You want: long life, health, beauty, power, riches, high birth, wisdom?
Or even some of these things? They do not appear by chance. It is not
someone's luck that they are healthy, or another's lack of it that he is
stupid. Though it may not be clear to us now, all such inequalities
among human beings (and all sorts of beings) come about because of
the kamma they have made individually.
你想要:长寿、健康、美丽、权力、财富、出身高贵、智慧? 或者甚至是其
中的一些? 他们不是偶然出现的。 健康不是某人的运气,也不是某人愚蠢的

So if one is touched by short life, sickliness, ugliness,
insignificance, poverty, low birth or stupidity and one
does not like these things, there is no need to just
accept that that is the way it is.

The future need not be like that, provided that one makes the
right kind of kamma now. Knowing what kamma to make and
what not to make is the mark of a wise man. It is also the mark of
one who is no longer drifting aimlessly
but has some direction in life and some control
over the sort of events that will occur.

In summary this Sutta is also called Subha Sutta which was
given to the Brahmin student Subha by the Buddha. Subha
asked Buddha what differentiates beings into the following:
Short lived and long lived
Diseased and healthy
Ugly and beautiful
Powerless and powerful
Poor and rich
Low-born and high born
Ignorant and wise

总而言之,这部经也被称为须婆经,是佛陀给婆罗门弟子须婆的。 须巴问佛

This Sutta gives specific examples of the fruits of kamma,
good and evil, based on the layman notion of
‘Good begets Good, Evil begets Evil.’
Buddha told Subha: “Beings are owners of kammas, heirs to
kamma, born in kamma, bound by kamma,
have kamma as their refuge. It is kamma that differentiates
beings into low and high states.”
这部经基于“善生善,恶生恶”的俗人观念,给出了善恶业果的具体例子。佛
告须芭:“众生是业的拥有者,业的继承者,生于业,受业的束缚,以业为皈

1. Life expectancy
If a man kills, is cruel, tortures, gets violent with other living
beings, he will be born short-life.
If a man abstains from killing, being violent, torturing and is
merciful and compassionate to other living beings, he will be
born long-life.

如果一个人杀戮,残忍,折磨,对其他众生施暴,他将出生短命。人
若不杀生、不暴力、不折磨,对其他众生慈悲悲悯,生来就是长寿。

2. Health
If a man habitually injures and harms other beings, he will be
born sickly with various diseases.
If a man abstains from injuring and harming other beings and is
compassionate to all living beings, he will be born healthy.

3. Ugliness
If a man is always angry, often irritable even over trivial remarks,
is stubborn, shows temper, he will be born ugly.
If a man is not angry, not irritable over strong words, not
stubborn, does now show temper but shows Metta (loving-
kindness) he will be born beautiful.

如果一个人总是生气,经常因为一些琐碎的言论而烦躁,固执,脾气暴躁,他
会生来丑陋。如果一个人不生气,不因强词而烦躁,不固执,现在会发脾气,
但会表现出慈心(慈悲),他将生来美丽。

4. Power
If a man has a jealous heart, envies others, is vengeful and holds
grudges, he will be born powerless or lack of influence.
If a man has a magnanimous heart, not envious of others, not
vengeful and does not hold grudges, he will be born powerful or
with great influence.
4. 电源
如果一个人有嫉妒心,嫉妒别人,报复心强,怀恨在心,那么他就会生而无能
为力或缺乏影响力。人若心胸坦荡,不妒忌别人,不记仇,不记仇,生来就有

5. Wealth
If a man is greedy and does not give to charity and does not
provide requisites to the Sangha, he will be born poor.
If a man is generous and gives to charity and provides requisites
for the Sangha, he will be born rich.

如果一个人贪婪,不布施,不供养僧团,他将出生贫穷。如果一个人
布施布施,为僧伽供养所需,他将生而富有。

6 Reputation
If a man is insensitive, proud and arrogant, does not pay homage, does
not rise when facing the worthy, does not honor and give up seats to the
worthy, does not respect the worthy, he will be born in a low family.
If a man is sensitive, modest and not arrogant, pays homage, rise for the
worthy, honors and gives up seats to the worthy, shows respect to the
worthy, he will be born in the high family.
6 声誉
人若麻木不仁,傲慢自大,不顶礼膜拜,对贤者不起,不尊贤让位,
不敬贤者,生于卑贱之家。人若敏感,谦虚而不骄,顶礼,为贤,尊
贤让位,敬贤,生于贵人。

7. Intelligence
If a man does not approach the learned and virtuous to enquire what
good and evil is, what right and wrong is, what should be practiced and
what should not, what should be done and what shouldn’t, what
conduces to one’s welfare and what causes one’s ruin, he will be born
ignorant and with a lack of wisdom.
If a man approaches the learned and virtuous to enquire what good and
evil is, what right and wrong is, what should be practiced and what
should not, what should be done and what shouldn’t, what conduces to
one’s welfare and what causes one’s ruin, he will be born intelligent.​
7. 情报
如果一个人不接近有学问的人,询问什么是善恶,什么是对与错,什么应该做,
什么不应该做,什么应该做,什么不应该做,什么有利于自己的福祉,什么
使人灭亡,生来愚昧无知。如果一个人接近有学问的人,问什么是善恶,什么
是对是错,什么应该做,什么不应该做,什么应该做,什么不应该做,什么有
益于一个人的福祉,什么导致一个人的福祉。 毁灭,他将生来聪明。

“Beings are owners of their actions, Student Subha,
heirs of their actions; they originate from their
actions, are bound to their actions, have their actions
as their refuge. It is action that distinguishes beings
as inferior and superior.“
“众生是其业的拥有者,须巴弟子,其业的继承者;他们源于其业,
受其业的约束,以业为皈依。这是区分众生的行为。”

When this was said, the Brahmin Student Subha, said to the Blessed
One: "Magnificent, Master Gotama! Magnificent, Master Gotama! Master
Gotama has made the Dhamma clear in many ways, as though He were
turning upright what had been overturned, revealing what was hidden,
showing the way to one who was lost, or holding up a lamp in the dark
for those with eyesight to see forms. I go to Master Gotama for refuge
and to the Dhamma and to the Sangha of Bhikkhus. Let Master Gotama
remember me as a lay follower who has gone to Him for refuge for life."

说完后,婆罗门弟子苏巴对世尊说:“伟大的乔达摩大师!伟大的乔达摩大师!
乔达摩大师在许多方面都清楚地阐明了佛法,仿佛他正在将被推翻的东西正直,

Our regular and constant thoughts and mental states have a bearing on
our creation of a mental world of Heaven or Hell.
