What is PAS24 and are Tigris Premier 3 cylinder products
tested to PAS24?
PAS24: 2007+A1:2009 is a product
assessment specification for the
Enhanced Security Performance
requirements for complete door
assemblies or door assembly ranges.
The assessment is carried out on a
complete door set in its frame, with
predetermined points of attack within
the specification.
PAS24 provides a means of evaluation
against opportunist attack and does
not purport to provide a means of
evaluation of total security against
unauthorised intrusion. The ability
to gain entry by manipulation of
a cylinder is addressed in PAS24.
However, entry by picking, by the
deliberate breaking of glass or by
attack on the frame fixing method is
not included.
Within PAS24, security experts
highlight the cylinder as a vulnerable
part of the doorset, including the
surrounding hardware that operates
a mortised or multipoint locking
mechanism.
Under Section A.11 of PAS24, there is
provision to attack the cylinder and
surrounding hardware using a set of
specified tools in an attempt to gain
entry through the door. For a cylinder
that falls within the scope of EN1303
to be used in a PAS24 test, it must
meet key related security (digit 7)
grade 5 and also the requirements for
resistance to drilling security (section
4,9.1) grade 2. All cylinders need also
to be submitted to a panel for general
vulnerability assessment (basically
picking and bumping).
Premier3 cylinders fall within EN1303
and offer Kitemark Approval, meeting
all these pre-requirements.
Premier3 cylinders (fitted with LAM and
SBS) pass section A11.6 part 1 and 2
of the PAS24 standard when used on
a Eurocell uPVC door and hardware
set with with a Hoppe handle. The size
of the cylinders used in the tests were
45+50mm cylinders with LAM inserts
(and SBS).
