1. INTRODUCTION
1.1 This Specification is for the supply of Conveyor Belting.
1.2 All equipment and services shall comply with the mandatory requirements of the
Mines Health and Safety Act 29 of 1996 and regulations (as amended).
1.3 The Vendor is to ensure that he complies with the requirements of Section 21 of
the Mines Health and Safety Act 29 of 1996 (as amended). The Vendor must
reply in writing confirming his compliance of this section.
1.4 For general procedures and definitions see Annexure A1 of this Specification.

2. SCOPE
2.1. General
2.1.1. This specification details the minimum requirements for the supply and delivery
of conveyor belting
2.1.2. The specification shall be applied for every invitation to tender or order to supply
new belting for capital projects and spares.
2.1.3. This specification shall be read in conjunction with the SANS Codes and
Standards specified within.
2.2. Work to be included
The work includes, but shall not be limited to the general items listed below.
2.2.1. Supply of conveyor belting as per attached conveyor schedule
2.2.2. Vendor’s hot vulcanized splicing procedure.
2.2.3. Vendor requirements and recommendations for storing spare belting on site.
2.2.4. Delivery costs to site.
2.2.5. Manufacturing programs (to be submitted with tender)
2.3. Work to be excluded
2.3.1. Offloading, storage on site and erection

3. DUTY DESCRIPTION
3.1. Design Data
3.1.1. The Conveyor Belting details shall be as specified on the attached Conveyor
Schedule.
3.2. Duty
3.2.1. In general the Equipment will operate 24 hours per day, 365 days per year with an
operating availability exceeding 95%.

3.3. Duty Description
The conveyor belting will be utilized to transport ore in the materials handling section of
the concentrator plant.

4. DESIGN CRITERIA AND MATERIAL OF CONSTRUCTION


4.1. Conveyor belting shall comply with the following SANS Codes.
• SANS 971 – Fire Resistant textile reinforced Belting
• SANS 1173 – General purpose textile reinforced belting.
• SANS 1366 – Steel cord reinforced belting.
4.2. The factor of safety for belt design, during normal running shall not be less than:
• Fabric carcass belting – 10:1
• Steel cord Belting – 7:1
4.3. All synthetic carcasses shall have polyester warps and nylon wefts
4.4. The number of plies provided shall be adequate to support the load as specified in the
Conveyor Belting Schedule.
4.5. The permanent growth plus the elastic stretch shall be less than 2,5% of the conveyor
terminal pulley centres for synthetic carcass belts and 0,25% for steel cord belts.
4.6. Synthetic carcass belts shall be suitable for:
• Hot and cold vulcanising.
• Mechanical fasteners
4.7. Carcass designs shall be such that they are not weakened by more than 10% when
mechanical fasteners are used.
4.8. The minimum number of plies for all synthetic fibre belts shall be three.
4.9. Although breaker plies are not specified, the belting supplier shall state whether the
inclusion of such a feature is desirable.
4.10. All steelcord belting carcasses shall be in accordance with SANS 1366 and shall be
made of steel wire cords which:
• Have a controlled degree of elasticity.
• Are treated with an anti corrosive coating.
• Are intimately bonded to the surrounding rubber.

4.11. The quality of the rubber covers shall be suitable for the specified materials conveyed.
Either grade “N” or “M” covers in accordance with SANS 1173 and SANS 1366 are
acceptable
4.12. Textile reinforced belting up to and including 8 mm top cover thickness shall have a
corresponding minimum bottom cover thickness as stated in the following schedule:

4.13. Minimum top cover thickness for steelcord belting shall be 5 mm and minimum
bottom cover thickness shall be 3,2mm, except when the rip detection is required
where a minimum bottom cover thickness shall be 5 mm.
4.14. All belting requirements are shown on the appropriate conveyor schedule.

5. MANUFACTURING AND CONSTRUCTION DETAILS


5.1. General
5.1.1. The vendor is to ensure that no “kinking” or “bowling:” of the belt occurs during
manufacture, storage or transport to site.
5.1.2. All belting is to be supplied complete with edge capping (sealing) to reduce belt
fray.
5.1.3. All belt splices shall be hot vulcanized.
5.1.4. All belting shall be supplied to site in rolls which shall be continuous and of the
maximum size compatible with road transport regulations. The vendor shall be
required to indicate whether any conveyor will require more than one roll of
belting. Furthermore, prior to delivery to site, the belt reels are to be properly
protected for transport, handling and clearly marked for identification purposes.

6. QA REQUIREMENT
6.1. General
6.1.1. QA requirements shall be in accordance with Annexure A2.
6.1.2. Data books to be issued before final invoice. Supply of documents and
information shall be in the format of Attachment 12.1.
6.1.3. The Inspection and Testing Authority, if needed, shall be approved by Anglo
Platinum.

7. DRAWINGS AND DATA


7.1. Data
7.1.1. Data shall be to Anglo Platinum standard, see Annexure A3 for more detail.
7.1.2. Three (3) sets of belt details shall be supplied in hard cover ring binder files on
release of equipment. This shall include the procedure for hot vulcanized splicing
of the belts. (One set in electronic format on CD). One draft copy to be issued
within three weeks of order placement for approval.

8. PACKING AND MARKING


8.1. Packing & Marking Requirements
8.1.1. Packing and marking requirements shall be in accordance with Annexure A4.

9. PERFORMANCE AND GUARANTEE


9.1. Performance
9.1.1. The performance of the items supplied in terms of this specification, as defined
by the order, shall be warranted by the vendor and if specified, be tested in
accordance therewith.
9.2. Guarantee
9.2.1. A minimum guarantee period of 12 months is required

10. REFERENCE STANDARDS AND SPECIFICATIONS


10.1. Standards
10.1.1. All design, engineering and equipment supplied are to meet or exceed the
applicable South African standards. Where no standards are applicable, generally
accepted procedures for design, fabrication and supply shall be observed.
10.1.2. The Vendor agrees to comply with all applicable laws, rules, regulations,
standards and ordinances in the completion of the work.

10.2. Specifications
10.2.1. The following Specifications, standards and regulations, as amended, form part of
this Specification. In the event of conflict between this Specification and the
general Specification, this Specification shall govern unless otherwise determined
by The Engineer.

10.2.2. If any of the applicable Anglo Platinum Specifications, as amended, are not in the
Vendor’s possession, please obtain them from EPCM Contractor.
10.2.3. Unless specifically otherwise stated in tender documents to the contrary, it shall
be taken that Vendors fully understand and accept all requirements and
implications of this Specification and that it is agreed that this Specification will
form part of any contractual agreement between Anglo Platinum and the Vendor.

TITLE: CODES AND DEFINITIONS

1. Codes of Precedence
1.1. All equipment and services shall comply with the mandatory requirements of:
1.1.1. Mine Health and Safety Act 29 of 1996 and regulations (as amended).
1.1.2. Minerals Act 50 of 1991 and Regulations (as amended).
1.1.3. Occupational Health and Safety Act 85 of 1993 (as amended).
1.1.4. Road Traffic Act, Act No. 29 of 1989 (as amended).
1.2. Any proposed deviation from this Specification and its requirements, which are modified
for application to specific items proposed by the Vendor/Contractor, shall be submitted to Anglo
Platinum for written approval.
1.3. If any doubt arises as to the meaning or effect of any part of this Specification or if
conflict occurs between this Specification and other information it shall be referred to the
Engineer for a ruling. The decision of the Engineer at Anglo Platinum shall be final.
1.4. In the event of any conflict between the various relevant documents, the order of
precedence shall be:
1.4.1. Technical:
1.4.1.1. This Specification.
1.4.1.2. The data sheets and/or drawings.
1.4.1.3. Other relevant documents.
1.4.2. Commercial:
1.4.2.1. The purchase order, including terms, conditions and legal requirements.
2. Definitions
2.1. The Supplier shall be known as the “Vendor or Contractor”.
2.2. The Purchaser shall be known as “Anglo Platinum”.
2.3. The “Anglo Platinum Representative” shall be the Project Manager or his appointed
representative.
2.4. “The Specification” shall mean this Specification and all the relevant Standards and
Codes forming part of this Specification.
2.5. “The Engineer” shall be the Project Manager or his appointed representative.
2.6. “Anglo Platinum” is Anglo American Platinum Corporation Limited.
2.7. “The Site Engineer” shall be the appointed Engineer on site.

TITLE: QA REQUIREMENTS
1. Quality Assurance
1.1. QA requirements shall be in accordance with the requirements of the Anglo Platinum
Specification AGS 029. The quality classification and QA documentation shall be as specified
on page 2 of this section.
1.2. Imported parts shall be fabricated to an approved international quality Specification.
2. Inspection and Testing
2.1. The Anglo Platinum Representative shall have access, at all reasonable times, to those
parts of the manufacturing facilities engaged in the manufacture of items in terms of this
Specification. He is authorised to witness any stage of manufacture, testing and to inspect
documentation.
2.2. The Anglo Platinum Representative is authorised to reject any items not manufactured to
the requirements of the Specification.
2.3. All equipment shall be inspected at the Vendor’s works prior to delivery, to ensure
compliance with the Specification.
2.4. No unit shall be considered complete until accepted by Anglo Platinum.
2.5. It shall be the responsibility of the manufacturer to establish examination procedures in
accordance with the requirements of the quality assurance procedure. All examinations to be
performed by qualified personnel.
2.6. The minimum testing shall be as specified in the Vendor QA and document requirement
list forming part of this section.

TITLE: DRAWINGS AND DATA

1. Drawings and Data


1.1. Documents as required by the Occupational Health and Safety Act (Act 85 of 1993), as
may be amended from time to time (section 1.2) and the applicable standards and Specifications
(section 11) are mandatory.
1.2. The vendor will supply 3 copies of the equipment data book, one electronic copy,
including all the items as specified in the vendor’s QA and document requirement list part of
Annexure A2 of this Specification.
1.3. All drawings and documentation shall be in accordance with Anglo Platinum
Specification AGS 046 “Vendor drawings and documentation requirements”, as amended. All
drawings are to be created using 2D AutoCAD.
1.4. All file names of 2D drawings supplied must correspond to the equipment numbers
specified by the Client, file properties are to be completed to Client Specifications for automatic
material take off (MTO) creation.
1.5. Data books/operating manuals are to be supplied to Anglo Platinum within 7 days from
delivery of equipment. Client review of the data books/operating manuals will take place within
14 days from receipt thereafter the vendor will be notified of the acceptance or rejection of the
documents.

TITLE: PACKAGING AND MARKING


1. Packaging and Marking
1.1. Packaging
1.1.1. Packing should be such as to ensure adequate protection in transit
1.1.2. Any damage resulting from inadequate packaging and marking shall be for the
Vendor/contractor’s account.
1.1.3. When items are packed the container or package shall be marked with the standard
pictorial markings, twin arrow (for this way up), wineglass (for fragile items),
chain marking (lifting points) and centre of gravity (for heavy items).
1.1.4. Applicable codes for packing shall be, ISO 1496 “Freight containers” and IATA
“Dangerous goods regulation”.
1.1.5. Each consignment shall include a complete bill of material / packing list
identifying each loose item component or part and shall reference the relevant
order number and equipment number.
1.1.6. Packing and protection shall be adequate to protect the equipment and prevent
deterioration of equipment for the period of two months after delivery to site on
the basis that the package will have no protection from the site climate during that
period.
1.2. Marking
1.2.1. Marking of equipment with equipment numbers shall be in accordance with Anglo
Platinum Specification AGS 045 “Labelling of mechanical and electrical
equipment”.
1.2.2. Each item shall be clearly marked and where applicable, match marked to facilitate
site assembly.

TITLE: ENVIROMENTAL CONDITIONS


1. Environmental Conditions in General
1.1. “The Vendor shall take all practical precautions to ensure that the Vendor, its agents or
employees, nor the implementation, operation and maintenance of the project results in
or is the cause of any harm to the immediate and surrounding environment or damage to
property or harm to human health and wellbeing in and around the project area.

1.2. In the absence of any specific legislation, ordinance or by-law, the Vendor shall
implement the terms and conditions of the Anglo Platinum Specification ADC 027 -
“Environmental Guidelines for Contractors” which guidelines shall be deemed to be
specifically incorporated herein.

1.3. The Vendor shall report all environmental conditions and environmental information to
the responsible person as is required by law to be supplied, and furthermore undertakes
to keep all environmental conditions and environmental information obtained either by
the Vendor or by any person employed by the Vendor in connection with the project
confidential and shall not use or disclose any environmental conditions or environmental
information without written consent”.

2. Civil and structural design.


• Reference velocity for civil and structural design shall be 43 m/s.
• For civil and structural design provide for maximum rainfall of 50mm in 15 minutes.

3. Climatologically and Services Data


• The Vendor shall take reference to which mine he will be quoting for and use the
appropriate area services in accordance with Anglo Platinum Specification ADC 022 –
“Climatologically and Services Data”
