(i) ISO 7089: Plain washers - Normal series - Product grade A

2.2 Alternative standards

The supplier may propose alternative standards provided it is proven that it gives an
equivalent degree of quality as applicable standards. But the acceptance of the alternative
standard is limited to GECOL for approval.

2.3 Precedence of standards

In case of discrepancy between this specification and any of the applicable standards, the
following order of precedence shall apply:

(a) Technical specification of GECOL
(b) Applicable standards
(c) Accepted alternative standards

3 Definition

3.1 Minimum slip load

Minimum load specified by the purchaser or declared by the supplier at which slippage
will not take place.

3.2 Mean coating mass

The average value of the coating masses determined either by using a control sample
selected in accordance with Clause 5 using tests in accordance with ISO 1460 or
conversion of the mean coating thickness

3.3 Lot

5.4 Design requirements

The support clamp shall be designed so as to meet the following requirements;
(a) The support clamp shall be so designed that the effects of vibration on the earth wire
and on the clamps themselves, are minimized. The clamps shall be designed to avoid
localized pressure or damage to the earth wire.
(b) The support clamp shall have a groove suitable for correctly accommodating the earth
wire and shall be designed so that the conductor shall not be damaged maintaining the
circular when it is installed and in service.
(c) The support clamp shall have sufficient contact surface to avoid damage by fault
currents. The current carrying capacity shall not be less than that of the earth wire
(d) The grooves of support clamp shall be bell-mouthed at each end and support clamp
shall allow a minimum 20° of vertical and horizontal movement in both directions
without causing contact between the conductor and crossarms.
(e) Bolts and nuts shall be not less than M12 and not more than M18, and shall be
possible to tighten them from the upper side of the clamp. Bolts shall be long enough
to protrude outside the thread of the nut. The quantity of bolts shall be two and the
gap of bolts shall be not more than 50mm to be suitable for fixing on earth wire
connection shown in GES 12400.

5/10
(f) Dimensional tolerance in which the tolerance is not specified shall be ±0.7mm for up
to and including 35mm in dimension and over 35mm, ±2%.
(g) The recommended torque of clamp bolt shall not be less than 30Nm.

6 Tests
The supplier shall carry out the Type tests, Sample tests and Routine tests in accordance
with the latest edition of IEC 61284 and as specified in this specification.
All support clamps are to be checked for compliance with this specification and with the
ordering quantity. GECOL reserves the rights to ask for tests to confirm the quality of
support clamp in the presence of GECOL representatives.
All test reports of the below defined and executed tests shall be submitted to GECOL for
approval within one week after the completion of the tests.

6.1 Sampling
Test specimens shall be selected at random from each inspection lot (or articles) in
