5 Requirements
The support clamp shall be designed so as to clamp definitely the conductor at the
support point on the angle. The support clamp shall be basically consisted of clamp body,
keeper, two U-bolts, nuts and washer. Support clamp shall conform to the physical and
mechanical requirements as follows.
4/10
5.1 Material
The keeper and clamp body shall be made of high strength cast aluminum alloy in
accordance with ISO 3522 and be anodized for anti-corrosion. The whole surface of
support clamp shall be smooth and free from blemishes, malformations or any protrusion.
The bolts, nuts and washer shall be made from shall be made from galvanized steel of
very good quality in accordance with ISO 898.
5/10
(f) Dimensional tolerance in which the tolerance is not specified shall be ±0.7mm for up
to and including 35mm in dimension and over 35mm, ±2%.
(g) The recommended torque of clamp bolt shall not be less than 30Nm.
6 Tests
The supplier shall carry out the Type tests, Sample tests and Routine tests in accordance
with the latest edition of IEC 61284 and as specified in this specification.
All support clamps are to be checked for compliance with this specification and with the
ordering quantity. GECOL reserves the rights to ask for tests to confirm the quality of
support clamp in the presence of GECOL representatives.
All test reports of the below defined and executed tests shall be submitted to GECOL for
approval within one week after the completion of the tests.
6.1 Sampling
Test specimens shall be selected at random from each inspection lot (or articles) in
accordance with ISO 2859-1. The number of samples selected from each lot shall comply
with Table 2 of this specification.

6.3 Retest
If only one sample fail to comply with the sample tests, a new sample equal to twice the
quantity of originally submitted to that test shall be subjected to re-testing. If two or more
samples fail to comply with any of the sample tests, or if any failure occurs during re-
testing, the complete lot is considered as not complying with this specification and shall be
withdrawn by manufacturer.
7 Marking
Marking shall ensure the system of traceability for each component of the fittings. The
marks shall be indelibly embedded on suitable position of clamp body. The characters shall
be English capital roman letters and Arabic numeral characters. The manufacture shall
mark as follows;
(a) Identification of fittings
(b) Manufacturer’s identification
(c) Year of manufacture
(d) Applicable conductor size or code name
(e) Cast code
(f) Minimum breaking strength
7/10
9 Document and certificate
The support clamp quoted by the supplier shall be approved by GECOL. The quantity of
document and certificates submitted shall be not less than three copies. The support clamp
shall conform to the latest edition of applicable standards including clause 2 of this
specification or any other equivalent international standards. The design and construction
of support clamp shall be subjected to the approval of GECOL.
8/10
9.3 Documentation
All documents supplied under this specification shall be documented to the extent that
the end user can easily understand its theory of operation, performance, installation and
maintenance for the product. All documents shall be submitted being filed in order to
approve of GECOL and reorder later.
Language in all documents and drawings shall be written in English and dimensions
shall be used in metric SI-units.
