the ISO 2859 attribute sampling system
(e) ISO 6892: Metallic materials - Tensile testing at ambient temperature

2.2 Alternative standards

The supplier may propose alternative standards provided it is proven that it gives an
equivalent degree of quality as applicable standards. But the acceptance of the alternative
standard is limited to GECOL for approval.

2.3 Precedence of standards

In case of discrepancy between this specification and any of the applicable standards, the
following order of precedence shall apply:
(a) Technical specification of GECOL
(b) Applicable standards
(c) Accepted alternative standards

3 Definition

3.1 Mean coating mass

The average value of the coating masses determined either by using a control sample
selected in accordance with Clause 5 using tests in accordance with EN ISO 1460 or
conversion of the mean coating thickness

3.2 Lot
A group of articles offered for acceptance from the same manufacturer, of the same
design and manufactured under presumed similar conditions of production. One or more
lots may be offered together for acceptance; the lot(s) offered may consist of the whole, or
part, of the quantity ordered

4 Kinds
The kinds of crossarms are listed in Table 1 of this specification.
Table 1 - Kinds of crossarms
Specification No. Dimension (mm) (Height × Width × Thickness × Length)
1200710 100 × 50 × 6 × 5000

5 Requirements
Crossarm shall comply with the physical and mechanical requirements as follows and
detailed dimension shall comply with Figure 1.

5.1 Material
All crossarms shall be made from steel of good quality in accordance with ISO 630. The
shape of crossarm shall be U-type as specified in Figure 1 of this specification.

5.2 Tensile strength

Tensile strength of crossarm shall be not less than 410 N/mm2.

5.3 Dimensional tolerance

The detailed shape and drilling of crossarms shall conform as shown in Figure 1 of this
specification. Dimensional tolerance in which the tolerance is not specified shall be
±0.7mm for up to and including 35mm in dimension and over 35mm, ±2%.

5.4 Hot-dip galvanizing

Crossarm described in this specification shall be hot-dip galvanized in accordance with
ISO 1460. The mean coating mass shall be not less than 610g/m2 in accordance with ISO

4/9
1461.

6 Tests
All crossarms are to be checked for compliance with this specification and with the
ordering quantity. GECOL reserves the rights to ask for tests to confirm the quality of
crossarms in the presence of GECOL representatives.
All test reports of the below defined and executed tests shall be submitted to GECOL for
approval within one week after the completion of the tests.

6.1 Sampling
Test specimens shall be selected at random from each inspection lot (or articles) in
accordance with ISO 2859-1. The number of samples selected from each lot shall comply
with Table 3 of this specification.
Table 3 - Number of test samples
Lot size Sample size Lot size Sample size
25 or less 5 501 to 1,200 80
26 to 50 8 1,201 to 3,200 125
51 to 90 13 3,201 to 10,000 200
91 to 150 20 10,000 to 35,000 315
151 to 280 32
35,001 to over 500
281 to 500 50

6.2 Type tests

(a) Visual examination (By this specification)
(b) Dimensional and material verification (By this specification)
(c) Tensile strength test (ISO 6892)
(d) Hot dip galvanizing test (ISO 1460 and 1461)

6.3 Sampling tests

(a) Visual examination (By this specification)
(b) Dimensional and material verification (By this specification)
(c) Tensile test of bolts (Clause 8.1 and 8.2 of ISO 898-1)
(d) Hot dip galvanizing test (ISO 1460 and 1461)

6.4 Retest
If only one sample fail to comply with the sample tests, a new sample equal to twice the
quantity of originally submitted to that test shall be subjected to re-testing. If two or more

5/9
samples fail to comply with any of the sample tests, or if any failure occurs during re-
testing, the complete lot is considered as not complying with this specification and shall be
withdrawn by manufacturer.

7 Marking
The marks shall be indelibly embedded on suitable position. The characters shall be
English capital roman letters and Arabic numeral characters.
(a) Identification symbols for the grade and quality of the steel
(b) Manufacturer’s identification

8 Packing and Delivery

The supplier shall provide packing of crossarms as is required to prevent their damage or
